Tancredo talk too offensive? Too bad.
World Net Daily ^ | July 23, 2005 | Radio Interview/Campbell

Tom Tancredo, the Colorado congressman who caused an uproar with the suggestion Muslim holy sites could be taken out in response to a nuclear attack on U.S. cities, is making no apologies if people are offended by his frank talk.

"Many critics of my statements have characterized them as 'offensive,' and indeed they may have offended some," writes Tancredo in a guest commentary in the Denver Post.

"But in this battle against fundamentalist Islam, I am hardly preoccupied with political correctness, or who may or may not be offended. Indeed, al-Qaida cares little if the Western world is 'offended' by televised images of hostages beheaded in Iraq, subway bombings in London, train attacks in Madrid, or Americans jumping to their death from the Twin Towers as they collapsed."

Tancredo, who in recent months has been an outspoken critic of immigration policies allowing illegal aliens to stream across U.S. borders, says few can argue the current approach to the war on terror has deterred fundamentalists from killing Westerners, adding so-called moderate Muslims and leaders of Muslim countries have done little to crack down on extremists.

"That being the case, perhaps the civilized world must intensify its approach," Tancredo says. "Does that mean the United States should be retargeting its entire missile arsenal on Mecca today? Does it mean we ought to be sending Stealth bombers on runs over Medina? Clearly not.

"But should we take any option or target off the table, regardless of the circumstances? Absolutely not, particularly if the mere discussion of an option or target may dissuade a fundamentalist Muslim extremist from strapping on a bomb-filled backpack, or if it might encourage 'moderate' Muslims to do a better job cracking down on extremism in their ranks."

Tancredo's commentary comes in the wake of reaction to his remarks during a Florida radio discussion.

In the interview with Pat Campbell of WFLA radio, Tancredo discussed his request for a briefing from the Justice Department on information it has on plans revealed by WND this week for a nuclear attack on the U.S. by al-Qaida terrorists.

Campbell noted that just after the July 7 London bombings, former Israeli counterterrorism intelligence officer Juval Aviv predicted an attack in the U.S. within the next 90 days. Aviv believes the plan is to attack not one big city, like New York, but half-a-dozen smaller ones, including towns in the heartland.

The host asked Tancredo, "Worst case scenario, if they do have these nukes inside the border, what would our response be?"

The congressman replied: "There are things you could threaten to do before something like that happens, and then you have to do afterwards, that are quite draconian."

"Well," Tancredo continued, "what if you said something like, 'If this happens in the United States and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you could take out their holy sites.'"

Campbell: "You're talking about bombing Mecca?"

Tancredo: "Yeah. What if you said, we recognize that this is the ultimate threat to the United States, therefore this is the ultimate response."

The congressman quickly added, "I don't know, I'm just throwing out some ideas, because it seems that at that point in time you would be talking about taking the most draconian measures you could imagine. Because other than that, all you could do is tighten up internally."

Tancredo's office clarified the comments, saying Tancredo was not advocating an attack on Muslim holy sites.

As WND reported, the controversial lobby group Council on American-Islamic Relations is urging the Republican Party to repudiate Tancredo's remarks.

Savage had Tancredo on tonight. I think it is clear that the language coming out of the WH with respect to the criminal alien problem and open borders that it is a conservative talk radio instigated issue comes right from the Clinton WH and their talking points writers. If it doesn't or even if it does, it means our enemy still inhabits the seat of power and that enemy requires defeat. The enemy is the enemy of the US Constitution whether it wears a suit with GOP on it or Democrat.

I also predict they will try to shut Savage down and find a way to silence Tancredo.

I just learned of this accusation against right-wing talk radio, and coincidentally, caught Rep. Tancredo on The Savage Nation. The more I hear from him, the more I like him.

I'll keep saying it: Tancredo will be ravaged by his own party. The Old Boys Club will try to destroy him.

As Hugh Hewitt points out: notice that absolutely nobody in political life is coming to Tancredo's defense? That's an excellent indication that you said something really stupid. Nobody is offended by the idea. It's stupid and counterproductive. That's all.

This guy was on Hannity and Combs tonight, I don't know why these people agree to talk to the despicable Combs. His (Tancredo's) suggestion has a familiar ring as it is commonly reported that France years ago in fact made this threat thru back water channels when they were having some significant problems with Muslims.

Look folks, the only thing that will solve every problem that has plagued man for 6000 years is the "Kingdom of God, on Earth". You can post every idea, cute quote, original thought you want, and that's ok. But if you don't pray at least once a day for "thy Kingdom come", you are part of the problem, not the solution. Until the curse that came from sin is lifted from mankind, the same old hatred, wars, envy, jealousy, haves and have nots, etc. will continue. The one big difference, man got so smart he finally invented a weapon that can clean this planets clock. And now its in the hands of fanatics like Al K-Duh, Dr. Ill, Pakistan, Red China, India, and I'm sure soon Chavez in South America. Its only a matter of time before someone lights one off, with escalation the only option, trumpeting the end of all life on Earth. The only other option is looking above for Divine intervention, instead of beneath at fallen man, and his ultimate solution, total destruction.

The more I hear from him, the more I like him.

Tancredo is very good at tossing out the red meat...but that's where his talent ends.

Only a pacifist doormat can argue with Tom's words. If 4 million Americans die in a nuclear or bio attack I would start with the pyramids in Egypt and tell the Grand Mufti either he calls off the Jihad or your most precious holy sites are next.

Picture it: A day like any other. People are going about their everyday lives. There is an explosion in Manhattan: a huge one. Everything within a half a mile is gone. From the air, a mushroom cloud can be seen--it was a nuclear attack. By the time the media breaks the story, the second one is going off in downtown Los Angeles. Five minutes later, there is a detonation in Chicago. The networks, scrambling and attempting to ride through the chaos, is reporting potential casualty figures in the hundreds of thousands. Here's the worst part: there's more to come.

You are in charge of the response. You know that al-Qaida has said that they would use nuclear weapons on the U.S., and that they intend to kill 4 million Americans to settle their grievances. What do you do?

BTW, Christians don't approve of killing innocents. Why Tancredo's statement appeals to so many of us is two-fold: he stepped outside of the Washington PC box for a minute, and, he made hamburger of a sacred cow, dear to both liberals and weak-kneed Republicans.
