Minuteman chief disputes Texan's e-mail
San Antonio Express-News ^ | 07/28/2005 | HernĂ¡n Rozemberg

The national leader of a citizens' border watch group said his Texas point man resigned this week for personal reasons, not because group members are outlaw-prone racists.

But in a resignation letter e-mailed this week, Bill Parmley wrote about disagreements and confusion among the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps groups in Texas that he was overseeing and racism in the ranks of the Goliad chapter.

Parmley quit his post as director of the fledgling Texas chapters, locally based versions of the Arizona group that held a headline-grabbing border watch mission in April.

Since then, the two leaders who organized the original event — Chris Simcox of Arizona and Jim Gilchrist of California — have parted ways, and the offshoots have tended to align with one or the other.

Parmley, founder of the Goliad chapter, didn't return repeated phone calls Wednesday. Simcox, the corps' national leader, said by phone from Arizona that Parmley resigned to give full attention to his oil-drilling business.

In the resignation e-mail sent to Simcox on Monday, Parmley alluded to other reasons for his departure.

He said a lack of organizational structure had created confusion and conflicts. He mentioned racism in the Goliad chapter and said the group was leaning toward adopting "a different agenda," but didn't get into details.

"You have experienced the same problems with your group," Parmley wrote. "You have no structure, and these Texas chapters have no structures because there are no bylaws. ... It is a recipe for disaster."

Other groups being formed in Texas are in Houston, Odessa and El Paso.

Simcox said Parmley told him Wednesday that his words had been exaggerated and taken out of context in media reports.

"He didn't mean to cause problems for us," Simcox said. "He regrets it turned into an issue."

Any internal differences within the Goliad group are about local issues unrelated to Minutemen activities, Simcox said.

Parmley told the Victoria Advocate on Tuesday that other group members balked at his idea of teaming up with a national Hispanic civil rights group to organize fundraisers to help detained undocumented immigrants.

Roger Rocha, Texas director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, said he had never heard of such a proposal, but he would not have considered it in any case.

"Not only no — hell no," said Rocha, speaking by phone from Laredo. "All these groups do is spout hatred and racism in our community."

In the interview with the Victoria newspaper, Parmley also accused group members of plotting to undermine Goliad County Sheriff Robert De La Garza because he's Hispanic.

The sheriff said this was the first he'd heard of it and that although the Minutemen haven't caused problems on his turf, he's now concerned that matters may turn ugly.

De La Garza said he's doing everything in his power to deal with the growing undocumented immigrant traffic in Goliad County and that if the Minutemen take the law into their own hands, they will face a quick reaction.

"Racist behavior won't be tolerated in this diverse community," De La Garza said. "They're setting themselves up for self-destruction."

Simcox said he will name a new leader for the Goliad chapter today.

"What does "outlaw-prone" mean?"

I doubt it means they're sneaking across the border into Mexico.

"What does "outlaw-prone" mean?"

I think it means the writer is a biased, left wing, extremist and pro-illegal.

You might ask Hernán Rozemberg.

GEE Why are the Minutemen against the idea of having to spend MORE time over and above what they have to spend because our incompetent government is REFUSING to do its Constitutional duty to repel the invasion to CODDLE the very people they're trying to KEEP from entering our country?

Roger Rocha, Texas director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, said he had never heard of such a proposal,

Obviously, either Parmley or Rocha is LYING!

but he would not have considered it in any case.
"Not only no — hell no," said Rocha, speaking by phone from Laredo. "All these groups do is spout hatred and racism in our community."

Ahem!

Since there's NO SUCH organization known as European Americans United Against Everybody Else, Rodger, I would suggest you try looking in the MIRROR for *hatred* and *racism*!

(gag, barf)

I think they meant "racism-prone outlaws."

The article's phrase doesn't make sense--but they were probably translating from the original Spanish.

If anything is causing racism against illegal aliens, it's the fact that American taxpayers are forced to pay to support the millions of freeloaders, yet many Americans are having problems supporting their own families. If this doesn't cause anger against our own government, I don't know what would.

The ONLY racist behavior and statement I detect are by De La Garza -- WHY is his assumption that the MinuteMen are "racist" in notion and statement, behaviors?

They aren't but the overwhelming response by many Hispanics about the MinuteMen IS racist: they conclude that "border security" means something racist and yet they respond repeatedly to requests for observation of legal immigration as if it's a "racist" requirement and therefore can and should be abandoned, not observed.

I am SURE that that's a lot of the motivation for illegal immigration...that there's an assumption that Central and South Americans don't have to legally immigrate, that being asked to legally immigrate is somehow "racist" and therefore that they can and do without much cultural or personal guilt from the look of things.

And, when there is any attempt to pose restrictions to illegal immigration, to ensure border security, suddenly it's "racist" to ask particularly illegal immigrants from Mexico and Southern areas to behave legally.

The ONLY racist response I read in that article is by De La Garza, who apparently thinks anyone who is Caucasian is "racist"...that's racism right there. De La Garza sounds like a gang guy.

Ha, boy, if ever such a group would start...I mean, most of us white people just would not tolerate it.

And yet there's every sort of group organized and funded and promoted that is based upon racial characteristics of "hispanic" this or that. The only thing united them is their racit terminology and racial characteristics, given that there's a huge array of different cultures and even regions involved in what and who "hispanics" are.

Let's see...an All White Anglo Saxon Caucasians for White People group?

The only racism I see and hear about are hispanics pushing for special rights because someone in their distant past arrived from Spain and they share some sort of common DNA...which...is...racist.

I smell a plant....a rat. I think Parmley infiltrated this group in order to destroy it.
