What you say is true. Everything about them is about power, and there are two ways to achieve that: 1) offer creative solutions to these problems and let the voters decide which ideas are bearing best fruit fastest, or 2) try to stop the other party from addressing these issues and then cry "gridlock".
Perhaps you, like me, feel that they have chosen the latter.
More damning, they confuse license with freedom, leading to all kinds of unfortunate schemes...IMHO
