Senate Republicans offer deal on Bolton information

June 15, 2005

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Trying to break an impasse on John Bolton's nomination for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Senate Republicans on Wednesday acted as intermediaries to give Democrats information on whether Bolton tried to misuse U.S. intelligence.

But Sen. Christopher Dodd, a key Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, dismissed the Republican action as "highly unorthodox and presumptuous," and said the White House should turn over the information.

Is it out of the question that Fitzgerald is going after the Wilson's? I hope he will. If that would happen it would probably be buried in the Arts & Leisure section of the Times

"McCarthyism" is alive and well. It is being used against John Bolton and President Bush. Just ask Joe Biden if it ain't so...

Amazing, though, how little Rather has had to pay for what he did...just like Sandy Burglar.

Well, rather lost his job. He left with quite a stain on himself after all those yrs as a newscaster. He wasn't given nothing like that old Tommy boy was when he left NBC. I thought rather left in disgrace...you gotta know that hurt that ego of his.

Did Burglar get a deal cause he gave up others? Burglar is history...his career is toast.

Yeah, maybe Rather's feelings are a little hurt...

But, even with a dang Special Prosecuter and Grand Jury investigation, the stupid Congress is STILL pushing for Congressional Hearings in front of the world....

Why didn't they ask for Congressional hearings into forged documents and put Rather under subpoena and sworn testimony?

I suppose the democrats feel if they make a big stink out of this Plame thing, people will eventually believe it's something important.

I believe Goss, the new CIA director, is after the leaker within the CIA. Without a leak coming from the CIA, no one would know Plame, John Kerry couldn't have outed a real covert agent on the Senate floor, and the democrats wouldn't have known about our covert spy satellite and couldn't have told the press about it. This isn't about Rove. They're looking for the rouge CIA agents who are leaking information to the democrats and the press.

BTW, where is...ahem....Valerie Plame right now, hmmmm? Fled to Europe, has she? I'm shocked! (not)

The thing that cracked me up about that panel is when Brian Wilson said in regards to the MSNBC report that "while you want to get an exclusive...you don't want it to be exclusive forever." ROFL

Biden is trying ANYTHING to keep Bolton out of UN...I am beginning to wonder if Biden has a personal stake in this...he is acting crazy about this appointment...

Two words. Recess appointment.
It's the Oil for Food network that scares the left. According to initial news reports when the story first broke, "Prominent Americans" were also on the list of $$$ recipients.

Oh and being interviewed by the State Department's inspector general and the Special Prosecutor in the Wilson-Plame case are NOT the same thing

Ah, but the Dims love to bait and switch, and get away with it much of the time thanks to their fellow travellers in the media.

What do you mean it's a yes/no question?

Snicker...

Biden can't answer yes/no questions because he needs time to plagiarize an answer.

I hope the President doesn't make the mistake of panicking as he did when calling for the "leak" investigation and goes right ahead with his reccess appointment of Bolton.

I hope he doesn't panic too. But I have a different wish for moving ahead.

Not having a UN ambassador is no big deal, so leave the position open. Blame it on the Senate for not dealing with the nomination. If the nomination lapses due to a recess of over 30 days, renominate Bolton for the same position.

The practice of 41 Senators holding up nominations has to be zotted. The greater the number of stalled nominations, the more likely the zot.

I've thought the same thing for quite awhile. How much info do you think Norm Coleman and his committee have on this? Haven't heard anything from them from awhile. Do you think they have any or does Volker have it all?

There were miles of documents found that had to be deciphered. They probably still have the networking to work out, i.e., who was connected to who by what. They have to put the spider web together. It's probably quite an impressive system.
All through the Clinton administration, there was no CIA to speak of ( No doubt Clinton didn't want anyone to know his "personal" dealings with other countries). The WMD info for Iraq was all the CIA had to offer Bush ,and that turned out to be pre-Clinton.
People and nations were free to engage in an 8 year free for all ! It was just one big Oil for Food party!
