Houston Muslims Denounce Terrorism

HOUSTON -- Houston-area Islamic groups joined a nationwide campaign to denounce terrorism, Local 2 reported Friday.

The public service announcements hit the airwaves Thursday. The campaign is called "Not in the Name of Islam."

CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, released it to build understanding.

"Muslims are not only victims of the terrorists attacks but also have to deal with the stigmatization of being blamed for the heinous crimes of a minuscule minority." Said Rodwan Saleh, with the Islamic Society of Greater Houston.

Houston's Islamic leaders joined together to applaud a religious ruling against terrorism and religious extremism.

"We want to let all of Houston citizens know that we stand behind peace and justice and we are absolutely against any terrorism or any terrorism actions in this city." Saleh said.

Nearly 1 million people around the country have signed a petition supporting American Muslims.

"The terrorists actions are not in the name of Islam and Muslims do not want their religion seized by criminals, said Kaleem Siddiqui, with CAIR Houston. "They commit these acts cowardly and they call themselves Muslims. We absolutely condemn that and oppose it."

Houston was recently rated the No. 1 city in the country by the Vera Institute for police having good relationships with the Arabic and Muslim community.

Good. Seen hundreds of these condemnations from Muslims. Why is the media ignoring it?

"Savage is about the biggest moron on earth."

I think he's just a shrewd businessman who knows how to play to his audience.

Because it doesn't fit their agenda of keeping this war going so they can make the Bush Administration look hamstrung.

Muslims denouncing terror does not add to the "quagmire" concept the MSM just loves to purport.

Can't hurt, but they should stay away from CAIR. And it was the Texas CAIR dude that got busted for terrorist related crimes..

I'm an Iranian-American devout Christian i've been around Muslims my entire life. Most of them are great people - they don't support terrorism and they love freedom and liberty and the US at least Iranian Muslims.

I guess it's hard for people like Savage to understand.

Talk is cheap...
Lies are condoned in the Koran -- to protect Muslims from the Infidel.
Deception is a tool of the weak, to avoid detection....

Muslims in the Free World, must do a hell of a lot more than "condemn" terrorism, especially since they don't always clearly DEFINE terrorism.

Muslims must get a lot more active in squeezing out the puss that is the Jihadist, or the entire body will ultimately be destroyed.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I'm in Iraq where I've been for the last year and a half and I have met some of the most wonderful people here - Sunnis, Shiites and Christians. The media distorts and lies about the situation here. It's not nearly as bad as they make it out to be.

I am also strongly pulling for freedom in Iran.

Did you hear Savage today? He really blasted this message sent out by the CAIR and it really made me realize that Savage is merely in the entertainment business.

The statement by CAIR is a pack of lies and should be blasted by every American. Did Cair happen to mention the name of Osama Bin Ladin? Did they issue a fatwa against him?

No.

What they say is useless. Of course everybody thinks terrorism is bad.

Shall we compare. - A Mr. Rushdie wrote a book.

Ayatollah Khomeini, proclaiming the book a work of blasphemy, condemned Rushdie to death for "insulting Islam, the prophet Muhammed and the holy Koran."

Eager followers put a bounty on Rushdie's head, adding riches to what Khomeini had already guaranteed as a place in heaven for the successful assassin.

Notice khomenini didn't just proclaim and condemn the book, or condemn blasphemous books, he used NAMES.

LET CAIR DO TO OSAMA WHAT KHOMEINI DID TO RUSHDIE.

Muhammad was the first Muslim terrorist/murderer/butcher/assassin. Can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.
