Moorhead, MN -- A controversial Kansas church plans to picket the funeral of a North Carolina-based marine who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq.

A church attorney says ten members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, plan to picket before the Camp Lejeune Marine's funeral in Moorhead, Minnesota.

The church blames the US government for a bomb that exploded on its compound in 1995.

The Westboro Baptist Church says it was bombed to stop its anti-gay preaching.

Church members say they protest at soldiers funerals to tie the deaths to the church bombing.

Keep in mind that this clown has zero credibility in his home area -- a small group of followers and a clannish family of duaghters.

He has been a democratic party worker and organizer and was a local Al Gore manager, as I recall reading, in one of Gore's earlier campaign.

This guys actions don't come from, or adhere to, conservative principles, but instead he has found an issue to ride to zealotry with his little church.

Who the hell do these people think they are? Protesting at a funeral? If I were the father of the deceased soldier, I'd go smack some of the protesters heads together before the service. This is indefensible.

This is the wrong way to protest percieved government abuse. This marine gave his life for our nation, protecting these misguided fools' rights. They should be on their knees thanking God for this marine and others.

These loons play into the left's plans to marginalize Christianity.

It's a damn shame that it didn't take all of them out. Protesting at a fallen soldier's funeral is just sick.

If they want to protest the government they should picket government offices. If they want to protest God, picket funerals.

Sounds like the Church of the Self.

The media has portrayed this group as a bunch of lunatics, and rightfully so. This group has disgraced a number of final services for military members that died in Iraq.

If it were a US Government Bomb there wouldn't be any members of this church left to protest.

Fred Phelps. He's right about God killing off homosexuals, but the guys taking his obsession too far. He should direct his energies toward fighting legislation from the bench, not toward the good people who protect his right to go nuts over one issue that's dying anyway.

I believe they're left wing activists. They favored pro-homo Gore, yet try to embarrass the right by their "Church" antics.
The right really needs to wash its hands of this left wing "church" loud and clear.
These are Gores people. They're left wing.
