"It was one of the shortest speeches of Charlie Crist's career, but as a campaign for governor unfolds, it may prove to be one of the most memorable. Two weeks ago, the Republican attorney general and candidate for governor gave a late-night speech to a roomful of lawyers in Miami where he referred to the judges in the Terri Schiavo case as 'heroes.' Crist insists he wasn't endorsing court rulings that prevented the brain-damaged woman's feeding tube from being reconnected, but critics view it differently. And by appearing to break his silence in the Schiavo case, Crist has sharpened the contrast between himself and Republican rival Tom Gallagher, who has said he favored government action to 'prevent Terri's starvation.' At the dinner in Miami, Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge George Greer and U.S. District Judge James Whittemore of Tampa were honored as jurists of the year by the Florida chapter of ABOTA, the American Board of Trial Advocates. The group champions judicial indep! endence and its members are lawyers who represent both plaintiffs and defendants. Greer is the judge who ordered Schiavo's feeding tube removed, rejecting a subpoena from Congress and pleas from Gov. Jeb Bush, and Whittemore also denied emergency requests to reinsert the tube in the weeks before Schiavo died March 31. Both men's decisions were later upheld by higher courts, and both were praised and vilified by opposing sides of the emotionally charged end-of-life case. Crist said he was 'proud' of both judges, 'You are heroes to all of us, and your defense of the judiciary and what is right is beyond admirable,'"

Charlie Crist is a pathetic loser.
That said, Crist is pretty weaseley and would probably prove to be a RINO if elected. He's one of those guys who kept running until he was finally elected to something. He won't get my vote in the primary.
Crist is a class warfare, business bashing, and now, apparently, a pro-death Republican. I've thought he was a poor choice for a "leader" for a long time: this seals it.
He'd alienate a good deal of the GOP base, but maybe Democrats would swoon after him because of his obsequiousness to the Terricides.
do you have the florida ping list??
That would be Joe Brower.

FL Ping...
There's another article on FR and a female reporter asked Crist if he was gay. He denied it but I guess you could hear a pin drop in that room. I wonder if the reporter asked because she had a tip to that effect or if she just wanted to get shock effect.
We've got way too many RINO's, I'm beginning to think they went Republican because they weren't quite liberal enough to get the Dim vote. They could run as "moderate" pubs and beat a lib. The RINOs are ruining the party and distancing true conservatives.
This is already posted, Joe.
Ping. What now?

Floridians need to know that CC is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Confused? If so, run for governor, everybody's doing it.
The judges he praised supported the law on the books. If the people want different laws, they need to go through the legislature, not get judges to make laws from the bench.
For years we've been complaining about just this type of thing being done by liberal judges on the SC. And rightly so. The legislature is the place laws should be made. Not the bench. If we have bad law, then it should be changed. Let's not assume a judge knows better than the people who make laws. Conservatives don't need an elite system that mimics liberal judges who put their "feelings" above the power of the people to create their own laws.
I don't want to be like liberals. I don't want judicial activism. Period. Not on their side, not on our side. The law's bad? Change it. Don't expect our judges to cheat. We're not liberals.
The judges job is to interpret the existing law. Let's change the laws that are wrong. Not expect our judges become like liberals. Crist is a wonderful man. He's coming from a place of great respect for our legal system.
What Charlie did was stand against judicial activism.

Some of the laws were followed but not all of them.
People are working to change laws but as long as we have good ole boys who are Dems in Pubs clothing, it won't happen. King refuses to represent his constituent base and will vote how he wants. Not many people in his district like him and so far I haven't heard one good tale about the man. Ruthless and greedy would be how folks personal accounts have viewed him, and some of those stories go way back.
The guardianship laws were dragged through the mud and might as well be ditched. Others in Pinellas have had to go through courts there and have been ripped off and victimized.
When the *&%# starts at the top and rolls downhill the everyday people don't have a chance because there is no one to keep the judges in check.
Even the auditor in Pinellas is denied access to all the records.

True news item: Charles W. Cope, then a Pinellas-Pasco circuit judge, is arrested while attending a judicial conference in California. Police accuse him of trying to enter a hotel room occupied by two women. The arrest is kept secret by Pinellas' chief judge for months.
True news item: Months after the voters fire Circuit Judge Bonnie Newton, as the state pursued disciplinary charges against her, the public learns that Pinellas' past and current chief judges arranged for her to take a courthouse job to preserve her pension.
True news item: Brandt C. Downey, a Pinellas-Pasco circuit judge, disappears from the bench for two weeks without explanation to the public. Chief Judge David A. Demers says he is "not at liberty" to say why. Reports suggest allegations of sexual harassment and computer pornography. Downey returns to the bench, also without explanation.
True news item: In an unusual midyear shakeup, Chief Judge Demers reassigns six Pinellas-Pasco judges - including Downey - without explanation. Courthouse spokesman Ron Stuart declines to say whether the moves are related to Downey.
Demers' statement: "Occasionally, we make changes in assignments in the middle of the calendar year, and this is one of those occasions."
http://www.justiceforfloridaseniors.org/dirty-guardian-tricks.html
(I'm just listing the first one.)
Here are just 10 of the "dirty tricks," as outlined by Pinellas County Internal Auditor Robert W. Melton:
1) Guardian creation of a trust: Remove all oversight by the court as a provision of the trust agreement; guardian becomes trustee; provide that the trustee can do whatever they want at their sole discretion.
2) Sell real estate at lowball price: Use "lowball" valuations as a benchmark; don't list property with Realtors; sell to a land trust, where nobody knows the beneficiary; watch property resold a few months later for a huge increase.
3) Maximize your (or your crony's) profit from investments: Hire money manager for "financial expertise" and let the manager select an investment broker; invest in volatile stocks and trade frequently to generate commissions; if you run up a large gain, don't selectively liquidate over time to pay the taxes but hold a "fire sale" to raise funds all in one day.
The JQC takes time to look into allegations before condemning a judge. It's a good system. It'll take some time for me to comment on your other points.
I know several people who have filed complaints with the JQC and are not receiving any response after additional requests for a response have been made. I've wondered why the person in charge of JQC isn't even a lawyer but that's my curiousity for you.
I don't expect a swift reply. Folks have lives to live and can't be on this forum 24/7. I 'm simply trying to point out that there are illegalities occurring and being ignored and/or covered up. There's more than what I posted.
There have to be some noble persons of integrity in this world who are willing to do the right thing instead of trying to win a popularity contest.
Judge Greer was ordered by the legislature--Congress--to be available for a subpoena. He ignored it. And the Congress ordered federal judges to review the case. They ignored it. I know the remarks Crist made were not to the feds. The prinicipal remains.
Crist will not get my vote.
THE PINGhttp://www.theempirejournal.com/
FYI: There was a robust protest at Greer's first honorary award banquet. The media covered it - we were surprised. Greer's been getting awards for bumping Terri off since May.
GREER refused to allow testing of Terri, refused to give her a divorce, GREER defied the U.S. Congress and the POTUS. If that isn't judicial activism, then I'll have what you're having.
CRIST FAILED AS FLA AG. No way I'm chancing him failing as governor.
Dereliction of duty? That's Charlie Crist. He should be impeached but we have until 2006 to get that put together.
id the people? wacky and waco.
Isn't that former dem Fla AG Bob Butterworth on the far left of that photo? I think his wife shot herself dead in a phone booth years ago. I don't make this stuff up. The people in that photo are BAD FOR WOMEN.

Ditto big time
I've heard recently that there are a lot of attorneys who were against Terri's barbaric death and they are also against the spineless people in govt. who didn't save her.
Rush may be agreeing with Crist because Crist is somehow involved in Rush's warrant regarding his doc shopping charges. Rush may be defending Crist to help his own situation re: oxycontin.

Couple a years ago (5-6) Crist was Commish of (Mis)Education or something. There was a big cheating controversy at one of the predominately black high schools. The proctors were sent home early so the kids could concentrate on cheating. These geniuses all got the same score based on identical answers to every question.
Of course this final score on their graduation test was, in most cases, far in excess of anything ever achieved before.
Charlie strode in, said there was not enough time for a retest and, not wanting to disenfranchise ANYONE, said EVERYONE would be credited with their score.
What a guy. Knelt down at the feet of the NEA and said "Of course its impossible to retest these kids and get the results in time."
Bullspit! Give the kids the same damn test again. If they could even remember the correct answers, I say graduate them.
But no, a bunch of (protected racial class) mothers protesting the unfair treatment of their cheating kids gets on TV and Charlie crawls in and forgives everyone.
