Faith hate crimes have soared by 600% in London since the July 7 bombings.
Alarming figures from Scotland Yard showed that there were 269 such attacks compared to just 40 in the same three-and-a-half-week period in 2004.
In the three days following the London bombings, there were 68 religious hate crimes in the capital; there where none in the same period 12 months earlier.
The attacks included verbal and physical assaults and damage to property including mosques.
Scotland Yard Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur said: "There is no doubt that incidents impacting on the Muslim community have increased."
He said most of the incidents were low-level abuse or minor assaults but they had a great "emotional impact" on communities.
And he warned: "It can lead to these communities completely retreating and not engaging at a time when we want their engagement and support."
The figures came as Home Office Minister Hazel Blears began a tour of Muslim communities to discussing ways of improving relations with them.
Speaking in Oldham, Lancashire, she said that contrary to suggestions British Transport Police chief constable Ian Johnston, racial profiling was not the way to find suspects.
Muslims blow up innocent commuters--Not a hate crime.
Muslims complain to police about being 'looked at funny' while wearing coats and carring packages--hate crime.
"Muslims: 52 kills
Non-Muslims: Zero kills."
Read it again. It means that Muslims KILLED 52 people (regardless of the victims' religion). Of the teerrrrribbble 'hate crimes' cited in this article, ZERO resulted in death (or even major injury).
YOU are the ignorant one. Can't even read.
Wake the f**k up. Let's say a...oh purple spotted male breaks into your friends house and kills the family. Wouldn't you like to know that the perp was purple?
A'holes and their PC will definetly get alot of people killed...that includes those with purple spots.
Thank you! Let them eat sand.
I don't reacall the person, but someone was recently prosecuted for hate speach after pointing out some factual home truths about homosexuality. I believe the "accused" questioned that it was a genetic trait and stated that it was lifestyle choice. He certainly was not inciting violence against gays, he was merely stating his opinion that it was a poor, insanitary, and health threatening choice.
