I've been posting here about the "subject to the jurisdiction" phrase for over two years, first defined by SCOTUS in the Slaughterhouse Cases.

what I can't understand is, why do so many people think anybody born in the United States is a citizen when they have to be "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" and not "within the jurisdiction

If I went to Mexico legally or "illegally" I would not be "subject to the jurisdiction thereof"

So the Senators are LESS responsive to the voters because they get to vote for them? Riiight.

At any rate the Senate was designed to be analogist to the House of Lords i.e. concerned about the long term interest of the Nation hence its insulation from the voters. Now Senators are just more arrogant Representatives.

But not much has been missed since State legislatures make the Congress look like far-sighted Statesmen.
