Breaking: Novak Explodes Live on CNN ((Full Story))
Think Progress ^ | 8/4/05

Posted on 08/04/2005 4:45:53 PM PDT by Tumbleweed_Connection

Just now on CNN’s Inside Politics, in the midst of a ho-hum discussion about Katherine Harris’ Senate race:

Novak: Just let me finish what I’m going to say, James, please. I know you hate to hear me —

Carville: He’s got to show these right-wingers that he’s got a back bone, ya know? Wall Street Journal editorial page is watching. You show ‘em you’re tough…

Novak: You know I think that’s bullshit. And I hate that. Just let it go.

Novak removes his microphone and walks off the set.

Update I: Novak Was About to Be Asked About Leak The Inside Politics host ended the Carville/Novak segment saying, “Thanks, James Carville. And I’m sorry as well that Bob Novak left the set a little early. I had told him in advance that we were going to ask about the CIA leak case, he was not here for me to be able to ask him about that. Hopefully, we’ll be able to ask him about that in the future.”

Update II: Media Matters has the video.

Update III: Flashback to the first time Ed Henry challenged Novak to talk about the Plame leak, on June 29. Novak wasn’t very happy then, either:

HENRY: Do you understand why in general there’s frustration among fellow journalist after 41 years of distinguished work, where you’ve always pushed and been a fierce advocate of the public’s right to know, you’re not letting the public know about such a critical case, and two people may go to jail.

NOVAK: Well, they are not going to jail because of me. Whether I answer your questions or not, it has nothing to do with that. That’s very ridiculous to think that I am the cause of their going to jail. I don’t think they should be going to jail.

HENRY: Yes. But I didn’t say you were the cause. But there are some people…

NOVAK: Yes, you do did.

HENRY: No, but some people feel if you would come forward with the information that you have, that maybe they would not go to jail.

NOVAK: But you don’t know — Ed, you don’t know anything about the case. And those people who say that don’t know anything about the case. And unfortunately, as somebody who likes to write, I’d like to say a lot about the case, but because of my attorney’s advice I can’t. But I will. And there might be some surprising things.

HENRY: We’ll all be waiting to hear that story finally told, Bob.

This should make for some delicious follow-up stories in the news! Maybe now Novak will feel free to vent his spleen about the behind the scenes unfairness of CNN, since we already know about the "in our faces" unfairness. I applaud Novak for finally finding the gumption to do what he should have done years ago.

It will hurt CNN in the long run. They are tanking as it is. Losing a star like Novak will cost them another 25-50,000 viewers.

CNN has suspended Novak for the utterance of the word.. Bullsh*t.

Shouldn't they suspend themselves for the years of crap and propaganda they have spewed is my question?

It seems like that would only be the FaiR ... and balanced.. thing to do. ;-)

More like 25-50. Novak is not a huge draw, more like a bumbling appologist.

Novak is the closest thing to a conservative cnn has, and if he walks, they can't even pretend to be balanced. I don't consider him a conservative either, but he's one of their big names.

If CNN does not want "bullsh!t" on their air, why do they put it in a chair at a desk and call it Carville or Begalla? Carville is more offensive to me just making his inane comments than what Novak said. CNN will loose more viewers. Novak was really the only voice of reason on that channel.

Kind of looks like Ray Nitschke in that picture. Please post a more unflattering pic of Carville, maybe the one with the trash can over his head.

Well if CNN has suspended Novak indefinitely for swearing on the air. Shouldn't the hypocrites suspend themselves indefinitely . Like forever? Wasn't it a news director of CNN that said horrible things at the end of the DemocRATS national convention? Remember the last day at the end of Lurch's'' reporting for duty ''speech when all the balloons were supposed to come down and didn't? I believe it was a CNN director that started cursing up a storm. ''Where are the f-----g balloons etc!

Yikes, was Novak the moderator? If so did Carville have to carry the last 15 minutes alone.

Hope they put up the transcript.

Frankly, Car-VILE should thank his stars that dueling is out of fashion (and illegal) in our present age.

I have been waiting for someone to thrash is ass on air--literally.

In fact, does anyone remember him shilling for some 1-800 information service a couple of years ago? I vowed to NEVER to use it because they hired his slimy tuchis to speak for them.

CNN probably thought that they were making a principled decision by suspending him. What they did was further cement their image as a liberal network.

Who is the person on the far right? He appeared to be the moderator. It looked like two lefties skewing a right winger.

Also, it did not look like Novak was planning to blow up and leave in advance (as in his did not want to answer Plame questions) as the moderator strongly suggested.

Also, CNN refers to the "bloggers" talking about this. Do they know what a blog is? We post on the internet ... but are not bloggers.

CNN is going down faster than the DNC. The losers on the Left are having a difficult time trying to get a grip. When you are elated about coming in second in a two person House race, you know you are in trouble. Coming in second is like kissing your sister.

I expect they will anyway, even if their standards and practices mean nothing to them (which is probably the case anyway). The MSM will never forgive Novak for his role in the Plame leak, and they will sieze on any excuse they can to drum him out of their club and totally discredit him. This'll probably be the excuse they'll use.
