I would also recommend the book "The Sword of the Prophet". A real eyeopener to the history of Islam.
ping for later
Sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my breath trying to explain to my friends and family that you cannot have a religion of peace when its "prophet" was a thug and a pervert.
You're not wasting your breath...keep reading and keep talking. Hopefully sooner, rather than later, they'll start paying attention to what is in the quran, and to the history of islam.
Me? I can't understand how a war mongering pervert can be given legitimacy by any but the most self-loathing Westerners ... which I suppose explains the "liberal" position.
I don't really fault Bush for his public face vis-a-vis Islam as a religion of "peace": I'm fairly certain he understands its nature, but, politically, he has to be nicey-nice right now ...
Me, I'm not running for anything so ... whatever ... And if I ever do run for anything, this stuff (true understanding of Islam's destructive nature) will hopefully be common knowledge by then ...
"Somehow, this myth of Islam's peacefulness has become conventional wisdom." Yes, as per the "liberal" mindset, but not for the rest of us who are not running for office and who are informed.
I keep thinking we need a Winston Churchill...glad to see someone like yourself who knows the deal.
