The dump truck ran the railroad crossing.

Huh. I would think Amtrak would want everyone checked. Maybe, as was said, they are just going to a more accessible site.

I hate not being able to get news from the states on TV.
Thanks for the pictures.

I can't believe there isn't a technical solution. How's about arresting hooks, like on aircraft carriers? That would stop a train quickly.

The only real injury here was to those in the dump truck. I am confident most the others are looking for a fast buck. Several wits on the train said it was only a big bump at worst.

1-800-LARRY-PARKER

And that is what this is all about.

Watch out AmTrak!!!!

Tomorrow morning, half of LA is going to claim they were on board that train!

That's disgusting.
Fine them.
Jail them.
Deport them (if that's the case).

Yes, and it will punch a huge hole into the legal theories that the Metrolink / Glendale train configuration is "unsafe" That dump truck is four or five times heavier....just not placed on the tracks by a homicidal maniac.

A lil' drug testing "be" in order now...

Well, any time you're a commercial driver and involved in a fatality it's pretty much a given.

I'd suspect that in a case like this (many casualties - don't know about fatalities), it'd be a given too.

I don't know about this case, but it isn't unusual for chip trucks to get hung up on tracks. Some truck/trailer combinations are susceptible to getting “hung up” if they’re overloaded.

A lot of chip or dump trucks are “eyeballed” and can be way heavier than intended. If they happen to cross a RR track they can get stuck. Mostly the driver will be well away from the impact site and wave goodbye to the truck as the train destroys it.

A lot of trucks are limited to 80,000 lbs. You can routinely go up to 105,500 (at least we did) if you are properly permitted. You have to watch where you go though.

I am not sure about that exact stretch of track...but the trains do reach 79mph on the line.....that is a heck of an impact

I have been on it a couple times.....in the past few months....and I would ride it again...just in the last car...every time.

The dump truck driver was ejected with major chest injuries, the female passenger was extracted from the truck cab with broken legs.

That's a very good idea.

Wow, sounds bad.

I was just thinking if it had happened on that crossing, on the west end of Moorpark...you know the part I'm talking about, where it crosses 118 and there are no crossing gates?

That would've been ugly.
