Clinton: 'I was a fat band boy'

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton said his weight problem and brush with death are the catalysts behind his foundation's initiative of tackling childhood obesity.

Once famous for his love of fast food, Clinton told CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta that bad health habits since childhood led to his September 2004 quadruple bypass surgery. That operation, he said, opened his eyes to a larger issue, and he turned his attention to the problem of overweight American children.

"The brush with death I had maybe had the biggest impact of all," Clinton recalled. "I realized that one more time I've been given another chance, and I wanted to make the most of it."

Clinton, who admits "I was the fat band boy," said he knows what unhealthy eating habits can do to a young body.

"Emory University's done a study saying that the obesity alone accounted for 25 percent of the increase in health costs of the last 15 years, so I thought it was a chance where I could save the most lives ... do the most good and also do something that I understood from my own experience," he said.

Clinton hopes to do that with a partnership between the William J. Clinton Foundation and American Heart Association. The initiative, launched in May, aims to "stop the increasing prevalence of childhood obesity" in the United States by 2010.

The goal is that by starting children on a path that includes a proper diet and exercise, they'll grow up to be healthy adults and reduce obesity-related health costs.

Other highlights of the initiative include working with the food and restaurant industry and the media and increasing physical activity and improving lunches in schools.

Clinton said lawmakers should take a greater involvement in the fight --

At first, from reading the title, I thought the article was about Hillary.

No doubt he is referring to the Faustian pact he made with the Evil One before he entered politics.

Brush with death? What a drama queen.

Exactly!

Same old Clinton... I wonder... was his lip quivering when he gave the interview?

Clinton just can't stop lying.

There is a picture of Bill at the Arkansas Band Museum (Pine Bluff, Arkansas) in his high school band uniform with his sax. Doesn't look like a "fat kid" to me.

In fact, he didn't start packing on the pounds, as far as I know, until his political career really got rolling. Even then, he never got to be as bad as good-ole Teddy Kennedy.

But as usual, Clinton will jump on any story - no matter how much of a lie - to make a "point".

The only reason he is saying this is that being a nerd is now a "cool" thing to be. (or so they say) It's just another example of how Clinton manipulates people. He is a master at that. Don't be surprised if he buys a llama and takes up with a friend named Pedro.

Rush always says good comedy has to have an element of truth to it. Several years ago, I read the following editorial by a guy named Greg Crosby, and thought it was one of the funniest things I'd ever read -- funny because it's so danged true. Everytime I think of kid Clinton, this is the image I have. Anyway, the last two quoted paragraphs address the chick element.

Flash back to the nineteen-fifties to a little town called Hope, Arkansas. Can’t you just see this chubby soft pubescent kid sitting in a darkened movie theater scarfing down a second tub of popcorn (with extra butter) while watching Elvis in Jailhouse Rock or King Creole and thinking to himself, “Oh, man. I love this guy!”

Can’t you see him looking in the mirror practicing the lip-biting humility that came so naturally to Presley (but is so studied with Clinton) and rehearsing twangy Elvis catch-phrases like, “Thaink yew ... thaink yew very much.” Can’t you see him in the kitchen making deep-fried banana and peanut butter sandwiches? “Oh, man! This thaing tastes great!” I’m convinced Elvis has always been Clinton’s idol -- his ultimate yardstick for success.

Of course, the established Clinton story is that his hero and role model has always been John F. Kennedy -- HA! -- don’t let him fool you. Kennedy could never really be Clinton’s idol. I mean, Kennedy did okay, but he never had access to the amount of chicks that Ol’ Elvis did. Girls never squealed and fainted for JFK. They never threw their hotel keys or panties at him.

What Clinton wants, is to have an Elvis Presley lifestyle AND a Kennedy presidential legacy. He’d like to record mega-hit rock and roll records and drive around in gold Cadillac convertibles. He’d like to dress in white jumpsuits with red sashes around his waist, dark sunglasses around his head, gold chains around his neck, and teenage girls around his legs.

The best way Billigula can make his "second chance" really mean something is to contact the nearest U.S. Attorney's Office, and offer to tell ALL the dirty secrets of his Administration from '93 to '00, INCLUDING all of the nefarious details of Senator Fat Ankles shenanigans, and that his testimony will be contingent upon not receiving any actual jail time.

Yes, I'd love to see Bubba in prison, but if he truly were to cough up the goods on Hiliarly, I could live with him getting a form of limited immunity from prosecution.

And the icing on that cake is watching the Hildabeast do the perp walk, right into Camp Cupcake where Martha Stewart did her time.

Except in this case, the sentence would be MUCH longer.
