There are reports from the 1918 pandemic of people walking down the street and suddenly dropping dead in their tracks. Whether they were symptom-free prior to that is, of course, unknowable.

I to have heard stories of the the 1918 pandemic of fast death. I once heard from my Great Grandmother, who lived through it a neighbor of hers went to sleep feeling fine and did not wake up.
