Terri Schiavo's husband Michael honored
AP ^ | 8/8/05

Posted on 08/08/2005 9:53:09 AM PDT by Crackingham

The husband of Terri Schiavo was honored by a group that advocates guardianship services for his years-long efforts to get his wife's feeding tube disconnected.

Michael Schiavo was given the Guardian of the Year Award by the Florida State Guardianship Association yesterday.

Terri Schiavo lived in a persistent vegetative state for 15 years before dying in March. She died after a protracted legal battle between her husband and her parents over her end-of-life wishes.

She died from dehydration after her feeding tube was disconnected.

A Franciscan friar who serves as the Schindler family spokesman Brother Paul O'Donnell said the award was offensive.

They said Michael Schiavo was a controversial choice, but they decided to honor him because of his commitment to honoring what he says was his wife's wish to not be kept alive artificially.

Good grief. Now we're giving murderers awards? How bizarre. This world has turned upside down.

Hey! If I go home and beat my children, perhaps mortally wounding one or both of them, maybe I'll win Father of the Year!! Oh, goodie!

I suppose next we will see O.J. Simpson receiving a Nobel Peace Prize. What kind of 'Guardianship' does this organization promote if Michael Schiavo is deserving of their award?

The inmates are running the asylum.

I had to swallow to keep from literally vomiting after reading this. That's the last straw. While we've vacationed many times in Florida and spent many a tourist dollar there, this family will NEVER set one foot or spend one dime in that God forsaken state again.

May all who gave him the "honor" be awarded like guardians.

It brings a whole meaning to guardianship. Yes, I suppose murder should count as one of the duties of being a guardian. And don't forget the crime was ordered at the behest of the State Of Florida and its authorities in violation of God's law.

Uuuhhh, he murdered his wife. I don't think accepting an award would affect his conscience if the killing her part didn't.

In this increasingly bizarro world, I am not one iota surprised that one group after another after another steps up to just fawn on Mikey, Felon, Green-ear, and the whole death crowd. All that 'paradise' down in Flori-duh is too good to be real, and this is the catch.

Yes, you are right. Sunny was in far worse condition than Terri. Her children, not her husband, were given guardianship and they have kept her alive.

I was horrified by the barbaric death ordered by Judge Greer and the revolting manner Michael Schiavo treated her family. Martin Katz stated it well when he said something is wrong with this country when a mother is not permitted to put water on the lips of her dying child.

It is scary that a man, who by his own words and deeds has demonstrated that he wants to torment Terri, and has a live-in mistress and illegitimate children is allowed to remain guardian.

"Proof"? He did it in broad daylight on the friggin' national news. Everyone who was awake at the time witnessed it. I don't need a jury verdict when I see him openly bragging about the crime.

It is scary that a man, who by his own words and deeds has demonstrated that he wants to torment Terri, and has a live-in mistress and illegitimate children is allowed to remain guardian.

scarier still is that our government found no means to protect her from him; and instead supported him. scarier still is that our government dispatched an armed guard to prevent her from being given water.

No, the world between April and now has not changed quite as obviously as night and day, but the sun is below the horizon now.

I felt the same way. I read about it yesterday and felt sick to my stomach. I don't like to get drunk but I wanted to open up a bottle and crawl into it.

My hatred for these people is so great I felt like going to confession. But I don't think it would be a good confession since I am not sorry I hate those people. I still may email a priest friend to gain solace for my pain.
What a shame the weakest and most defenseless are in danger from those who profess to help them.

I agree. No one who could have saved her would do it and a corrupt judge sentenced an innocent person to a barbaric death, the kind of death we are not allowed give to the worst of criminals. BTW, a nine year old boy who tried to bring her water was handcuffed by the police and taken away.
