9 out of 10 dentists recommend a zot.

Tell me about it. I was just at the dentist today and he wants to zot my wisdom tooth. What did it ever do to him?!

Is this still policy on FR ? Not to cut and paste from du or link to du ?

Once the Bloggers forum was created Jim decided it was OK to post comment about or links to DU type sites there.

It would serve as a reminder and save a lot of searching, especially for newbies, if this link was put on the Home page right under Jim's link to the terms of the LATimes/WaPost copyright settlement.

I'd like to second that. Actually, I've been trusting the system to not allow me to post from a prohibited site. If I'm not trying to cheat the system, isn't that a safe strategy?

I moved it to news. Nice discussion. If something isn't right, just ask. The quickest way to contact us is using the report abuse link, but leave your name if you want a reply, you are anonymous to us, unless the Lead Moderator or Jim is around and we can ask. We're really flexible, and if politics is one thing, it's flexible.

I wish someone would come up with full leather lunged welcome to the pukes who dare to show up on my beloved Free Republic.

I am sick and tired of drive by posters, and long time jokers.

Gonna watch Full Metal Jacket now, to get some inspiration

Yeah, okay. It took me a few FReepathons to figure out what happened to Jim. I felt bad about that.

... then I came to understand that he's also a pretty good guy. That made me feel better.

Now then, we have our beloved Laz as referenced...

'Ole Laz here, you see, is, well... different.

A ZOT is what happens to DU trolls and their ilk directly before their accounts become "suspended".

If you happen upon a troll thread and can reply before the poster is banned, you can then proudly announce that you were "in before the zot".

It's good fun.

Up until about a year or so ago, it was no du or clones at all. Since the bloggers forum, it's been revised to allow them. We try to keep them in the bloggers forum. As you can imagine, we don't read every single post or thread, it's just physically impossible, so, if you have a concern, just hit the report abuse link and ask, or freepmail. As I said earlier, you should leave your name if you want a reply via the abuse reports, as you are anonymous to us (Lead mod and Jim know, the AM's and SM's don't).

Question......"***Addition New York Times" (from the bottom of Jim's list of publications)......

Does that mean no excerpting at all from N.Y. Times?

Also, a suggestion/request : Could you make more catagories for the Bloggers forum? Right now, there's really no good 'Topics' catagory for Blogs about the War or the middle east, etc.

Thanks

The way I find it now is enter "adminmoderator" in the "find user" search function and go to your home page to get it. Since I've been known to post an article or two, I sometimes check to see if I have to excerpt or link only. It can be a real pain to get it this way (suppose I could bookmark it, too).

Thank you for your prompt reply . . .and congrats on being the hottest site on the net !

I'm going to go broadband (3 meg down . .wooohoo!) tomorrow, but I wanted to remind Jim and the beloved crew how much of the Bush Base is in rural areas on dial-up accounts (I was for 4 years).

I've spent a considerable about of time here in this place for one very good reason . . the people. . . and people are here because they can load it fast and get to the CONTENT fast. Please keep this in mind as you make design decisions in the future.

We're here to exchange IDEAS with other amazing conservatives, and it's been an amazing 4 years so far, I'm looking forward to more.

Pretty much. I think I'm not understanding your question about forums though, so, let me explain our defination.

A forum is a section on FR. All news stories are in news. All home made stuff from your web site is in bloggers, all news stories that aren't political, suv hits pitbull, any single freepers out there, nigerian lottery, etc, goes in the general/chat forum. Religion stories that are appolitical goes to religion, and stuff that gets out of control goes to the backroom. That's the general guidelines, of course there are always deviations, but that's our basic guideline. We go from there. There are really no set moderating rules because everything is so dynamic, and ever changing. So, we're more than happy to try to work out situations with posters, but, you have to let us know too. There are just too many threads and posts for us to be able to read them all. A heads up is a good thing if you have a question.

Anyway to review threads with the ability to omit posters by the reviewer....?

Oh yeah.
the holy grail of FR: a filter for posters!

Robinson's Law: No matter how stupid, provocative, neurotic and silly a post is there will always be a few Freepers present who will feed the nutjob's ego by responding.

This no longer works. I've wondered why. Do you know?

Yeah.
Microsoft was bought by Halliburton and FR is a subsidiary of Halliburton.

Does that make sense?

IMHO, you left out a very important point: Do not unnecessarily excerpt an article!

When I post an article I assume it will not have to be excerpted. Then I depend on the posting software to tell me, based on the URL I supply, if the article needs to be excerpted.

Nonexcerpted articles can be very important for historical and research purposes because most news sites do not leave articles available indefinitely.
