Jagger Says Song Not an Anti-Bush Tirade (MICK STARTS DANCIN' BACKWARDS)
Yahoo News ^ | 8/10/05 | AP

Posted on 08/10/2005 5:12:27 PM PDT by Chi-townChief

The Rolling Stones' upcoming album contains a song seemingly critical of President Bush, but Mick Jagger denies it's directed at him, according to the syndicated TV show "Extra."

"It is not really aimed at anyone," Jagger said on the entertainment-news show's Wednesday edition. "It's not aimed, personally aimed, at President Bush. It wouldn't be called 'Sweet Neo Con' if it was."

The song is from the new album, "A Bigger Bang," set for release Sept. 6. There is no mention of Bush or Iraq. But it does refer to military contractor Halliburton, which was formerly run by Vice President Cheney and has been awarded key Iraq contracts, and the rising price of gasoline.

"How come you're so wrong? My sweet neo-con, where's the money gone, in the Pentagon," goes one refrain.

The song also includes the line: "It's liberty for all, democracy's our style, unless you are against us, then it's prison without trial."

"It is certainly very critical of certain policies of the administration, but so what! Lots of people are critical," Jagger told "Extra."

A representative for the Stones said the group had no further comment about the song.

The Rolling Stones intend to kick off a U.S. tour in Boston Aug. 21.

At least Keith had the sense to say, leave the politics out of it but I guess this old fart saw a chance for some easy headlines. Remember "Sweet Black Angel" ? That would sure go over like a screen door on a submarines now.

I think ol' Mick meant for the song to be "A Bigger Bong".

What a dumbass!

I really liked the early Stones from back in the day, but now they're just millionaire old men jumping around and making fools of themselves, IMHO.

They have the right to write what they want, and we have the right to not buy their albums or tickets to their concerts.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the Rolling Stones just signed a big deal to do music for the NFL and Monday night football this season. This would be the place to let the powers be know what we think of them. Perhaps the NFL caught wind of this song yesterday and had a talk with their new/old rockers.

And I'm sure the NFL is having second thoughts about promoting these wrinkled rockers in their Mon. Night Football lead-ins this season. The Red States are football states and they will not like this obvious leftist attack on the administration they voted for. The NFL needs to hear from you, if you haven't already written them: NFL, 280 Park Ave., NY, NY 10017.

"How come you're so wrong? My sweet neo-con, where's the money gone, in the Pentagon," goes one refrain.

The Stones as political commentators? They should stick to stuff like.....

"I met a, gin-soaked ballroom queen in Memphis."
"She tried to take me upstairs, for a ride...."

I've seen them twice and it's a great show but they haven't put out a good album in about 30 years. I think the Old Jag is trying to stir the pot and, hopefully, it backfires BIG TIME. We should send Jerry Hall to kick his skinny English ass.

Lest we forget the outrageous inaccuracies of "Heartbreaker"

(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

The po-lice in New York City
They chased a boy right through the park
And in a case of mistaken identity
The put a bullet through his heart

Heart breakers with your forty four
I wanna tear your world apart
You heart breaker with your forty four
I wanna tear your world a part

A ten year old girl on a street corner
Sticking needles in her arm
She died in the dirt of an alleyway
Her mother said she had no chance, no chance!
Heart breaker, heart breaker
She stuck the pins right in her heart
Heart breaker, pain maker
Stole the love right out of you heart

Heart breaker, heart breaker
You stole the love right out of my heart
Heart breaker, heart breaker
I wanna tear your world apart

Doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo...

By today's standards, that's fairly tame.  Performers take a big risk when they do this in public.  Some people may thing it's great, but there's going to be a lot of people who will think Jagger's a complete fool for not being to comprehend why we treat terrorists the way we do.

Hey... let's base all of our domestic and foreign policy on the wisdom of has-been rock stars.

Let's see...

Mick Jager could be our Drug Czar and head the WOD.
Alice Cooper could be Secretary of State.
Elton John could be Sec of Health, Education and Welfare.

Ok.. your turn. List your favorites.

it's become a friggin' parody

I remember declining to go to a Stones' concert in '81 for that exact reason. ....I thought they were fogeys 24 years ago...lol. (Although Tattoo You did have a couple of good tunes on it.).

Mick with his prancing and juvenile gesturing .....Keith with his skull jewelry with cig dangling. .....it has indeed become a parody.

Long gone are the days when they released amazing album right after amazing album ('68 - '72).

There are places where they retire used up circus animals. It's time to find a place to retire used up rock and roll artists. Bob Barker, from "The Price is Right" has a Circus refuge for old elephants and tigers who can no longer perform. Let's find a place for The Rolling Stones to retire in dignity and get the hell ot of our lives.

My husband is one of the most apolitical people you could ever meet. He came home today and told me about the Stone's anti-Bush song. He is upset about it being used by the NFL? (Which I have not heard anything about.) He is threatening to boycott the NFL if they go through with it. LOL! The Old Rolling Fools should just retire.

I continue to be amazed that many in the entertainment field are willing to alienate a large part of their potential customer base for no good reason. Mick should check with the Dixie ex-Chicks on the advisability of picking on Dubya.

Alice Cooper is a golf-playing, Republican, born-again Christian.

In any case, there's only one possible choice for Drug Czar: Ozzy Osbourne.
