Quick - google Dietrich Snell. Explains a lot about AttaGate.

don't have time to elaborate - see for yourself. This guy was the one Able Danger team briefed who decided it was not worthy of inclusion into the 9/11 report or even to the ears of comittee members since it did not fit their conclusions about Atta. THIS NEEDS TO P*O*P!

Only Zelikow and Gorelick reportedly are allowed to read classified intelligence reports — known as the presidential daily briefs — in their entirety.

Justs think how much truth would be exposed if FreeRepublic and the power of informed internet users had been in charge of the commission.

An earlier report I read this evening (they're all running together) about Snell points out that the German cell members covered for one another when some were out of the country so that their absence wouldn't be tracked.

Snell should have known this when he heard the briefing. Good grief!

This same Scarpa, who was the mobster informant in the Yousef case, was the same Scarpa who was the informant telling officials about all of the explosives under Terry Nichols' house.

One degree of separation on two huge terror acts. Wonder if he bought a ticket for Flight 800?

How weird is that??? Coincidence???

"Rep. Weldon speaks about "Able Danger" to the House, May 21, 2002. No use of the phrase "Able Danger", and no mention of Atta. Was it still classified, or did the Able Danger team only learn later that they had Atta on their list? Ahh! Per Weldon, the Able Danger team briefed Gen. Shelton in January 2001, but what did they say? Presentation, notes, recollections, testimony please.

From the Times:

Mr. Felzenberg confirmed an account by Mr. Weldon's staff that the briefing, at the commission's offices in Washington, had been conducted by Dietrich L. Snell, one of the panel's lead investigators, and had been attended by a Pentagon employee acting as an observer for the Defense Department; over the commission's protests, the Bush administration had insisted that an administration "minder" attend all the panel's major interviews with executive branch employees. Mr. Snell referred questions to Mr. Felzenberg.

Now, in trying to find out about Mr. Snell, I came across this, which I pass on *WITHOUT ENDORSEMENT*:

But Philip Zelikow, Executive Director of the 9/11 Commission, shocked [Peter] Lance, [author of "Cover Up", about the 9/11 Commission] with the news that his information would be taken privately by Commission team leader Dietrich Snell. For in 1996, when he was Assistant U.S. Attorney, Snell himself had helped to prosecute Yousef in the Bojinka trial, in a way that systematically excluded not only Scarpa's testimony but all reference to both KSM and Bojinka II.

As Lance wrote later in Cover Up,

Under objective circumstances, Snell would have made an important witness before the Commission. But in the heavily conflicted world of the Commission staff, he was hired to be one of its senior attorneys and team leaders.

The cover-up Lance wished to discuss with Snell was not over.

[The Commission's] Staff Statement No. 16, co-written by Dietrich Snell, concluded that KSM didn't begin planning the 9/11 attacks until 1996. There was no mention of Yousef's involvement in the plot. . . . If this take on the story were true, it would let the Justice Department and the FBI off the hook for ignoring the evidence presented to them . . . in 1995 -- evidence showing that Yousef and KSM . . . were planning to hijack airliners and fly them into six U.S. buildings . . . including the WTC."

"If we had new media this would be devasting. But the clowns who pass themselves off as reporters could never allow the 24/7 Natalie orgy to be interrupted by anything so trivial."

Fox News is getting close to the point where its total time spent on the "Aruba Cataclysm" will surpass total reportage on the Twin Towers.

Is that the Aruba garbage dump that smells so bad, or is it Greta Van Sustrand?

"Only Zelikow and Gorelick reportedly are allowed to read classified intelligence reports — known as the presidential daily briefs — in their entirety.

So they not only control the information flow to the full Commission, they got to read the entire PDB's.

So, the vicious and dishonest dustup with Condi over the August 2001 PDB was launched by either Zelikow or Gorelick, who, at the outset, took parts of the PDB out of context to facilitate a smear of Condi Rice. Gorelick and Zelikow were the only ones who saw the whole thing, so they were the only ones who could have done the selective editing.

Must have been Gorelicker, unless Zelikow harbored a secret grudge against Condi - 'cause Zelikow was far from a partisan 'Rat like Gorelicker. The criticism of Zelikow being appointed Exec. Director was that he had co-authored a book with Condi and had advised the Bush transition team. I think he's come off as a very bi-partisan character, but certainly he was not an obvious Democratic mole, and nothing I've seen about him suggests that he would be co-ordinating that assault on Rice and Bush.

Gorelicker, on the other hand, was/is a whore for the Clintons, so she easily could do it..... and if she and Zelikow were the only ones to have complete access to the PDBs, then it seems apparent that she and Ben Veniste worked together to prepare that loathsome ambush of Condi Rice. All the more reason that Gorelicker needs to be tarrred and feathered, publicly revealed as a prime architect of both failed intelligence policies/procedures in the '90s "the WALL" and then also of the cover-up called the 9/11 Commission.

'Fixers' on the 9/11 Commission and its staff: Jamie Gorelick, Richard Ben Veniste, Dietrich Snell, Daniel Marcus, Peter Rundlet (now a paid Soros/Podesta drone). Each of these people has powerful personal links to Bill Clinton and/or failures of his administration to properly address terrorism issues. As for Rundlet, he may turn out to be up to his eyeballs in the cover-up, for he dwells in the heart of beast-land:

Re the 1999 vs 2000 presence of Atta in the US, the discrepancy could be explained by something as mundane as the testifier mixing up "before the millenium" and "before the WTC disaster." Just as we all may be susceptible to writing the wrong year on a check in any January, this particular testifier could have said 1999, when he meant "one year before 9/11."

You might know this, but I want to add it to this thread, and am going to "park" it here. ;*) It is from an article recounting her resignation from the DOJ in 1997.

Who could possible have imagined that the DOD had 10000 LAWYERS! Why!!!!

http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/1997/January97/018dag.htm

Before joining the Department of Justice, Gorelick served
from May 1993 to April 1994 as General Counsel of the Department
of Defense. As General Counsel, she supervised the government's
second-largest "law firm," consisting of 10,000 lawyers.

Gorelick, 46, is a former partner in the Washington law firm
of Miller, Cassidy, Larocca and Lewin, and a former President of
the District of Columbia Bar. She graduated from Harvard College
in 1972, and from Harvard Law School in 1975. She is married to
Richard Waldhorn, M.D., and has two children.

More from the same press release: [the bolding is mine]

Jamie S. Gorelick announced today that she will be resigning from her position as Deputy Attorney General to return to private life. Gorelick said she will remain in office long enough to help Attorney General Janet Reno assemble a team to lead the Department in the Clinton Administration's second term.

As the Justice Department's number two official since March 1994, Ms. Gorelick has served as the Department's chief operating officer, provided overall supervision of the Department, and functioned as the direct manager of its law enforcement components. She is one of the longest serving Deputies in the Department's history, and second woman ever to hold the position.

"Jamie brought tremendous managerial skill, brilliant legal ability, and great sensitivity to an extremely difficult job," said Reno. "Her contributions to the Department are incalculable, and I will miss her greatly, both as a colleague and as a friend."

As Deputy Attorney General, Gorelick introduced new managerial structures to guide the Department in the midst of a 30 percent increase in the Department's personnel and a 70 percent budget increase during her tenure.

One of Ms. Gorelick's principal priorities was to help prepare the Justice Department to be able to respond effectively to the new challenges of transnational crime and terrorism. To do this, she forged new relationships and administrative protocols with the Departments of State, Treasury and Defense, and with the intelligence community.

The Deputy Attorney General also worked with the Department's law enforcement components to better respond to crisis situations in the aftermath of the incidents at Ruby Ridge and Waco. After the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City in April 1995, she coordinated the government's overall response to the bombing and supervised the investigative and prosecutorial response to the crisis.

"In all of her work with law enforcement," Reno added, "Jamie displayed a sensitivity to the civil liberties of our citizens that gave comfort to all of us who care deeply about the Constitution."

WOW, that's a huge find because it confirms that Gorelick was THE Clinton administration "point person" for all legal policies and procedures related to terrorism, across many departments!! This is huge, for it suggests that Gorelick did indeed extend the policies of "the WALL" memo all over the federal government, to all of the departments and agencies dealing with terrorism. Janet Reno's PR describing Gorelick's central role in overseeing ALL legal policies and procedures between various federal government departments and agencies dealing with terrorism:

http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/1997/January97/018dag.htm

We already knew about the 'WALL' memorandum but this PR from Reno boasts that Gorelick was "on point" not only with the FBI but with "the Departments of State, Treasury and Defense, and with the intelligence community." This supports my speculation on another thread that she may well bear some direct or indirect responsibility for the policies and procedures being followed by the still unnamed "Pentagon lawyers" who foolishly blocked the folks at "Able Danger" from sharing info with the FBI!!!!!!! We need to be demanding that investigations into the Able Danger material include a look at WHO set the policies that the "Pentagon lawyers" were following, especially since that points right back to the whole issue of a COVER-UP by the 9/11 Commission that failed to examine the role of one of its own members in creating the conditions in which vital terror info could not be shared among government agencies!!

I would like to add for the record that Richard Clarke was the one holdover from the Clinton administration that could have made sure that the Able Danger info got to the right hands.

Clearly, he did not. And when the 9/11 commission fiasco started, he tried to pin it on Bush.

He's part of the cover up. Now the only question is whether or not this was all done on purpose to hurt Bush and Republicans.

Okay, you guys need a laugh break (but this is true)
Philip Zelikow has co-authored many books. He wrote a book with Ernest May on The Kennedy Tapes, and another with Joseph Nye and David King on Why People Don’t Trust Government. He wrote Germany Unified and Europe Transformed with Condoleezza Rice.

Prof. Zelikow's area of academic expertise is the creation and maintenance of, in his words, “public myths” or “public presumptions,” which he defines as “beliefs (1) thought to be true (although not necessarily known to be true with certainty), and (2) shared in common within the relevant political community." In his academic work and elsewhere he has taken a special interest in what he has called “‘searing’ or ‘molding’ events [that] take on ‘transcendent’ importance and, therefore, retain their power even as the experiencing generation passes from the scene.

Phil apparently read his book

You really can't make this stuff up -- real life is stranger than almost any fiction. Now Zelikoff can come out with a new edition of that book: "REVISED! UPDATED IN LIGHT OF THE WORK OF THE 9/11 COMMISSION!"

Should be a best-seller now....
