No liberties are lost when rules hurt the bad guys...
NY Daily News ^ | 08/12/05 | Charles Krauthammer

Call it situational libertarianism: Liberties should be as unlimited as possible - unless and until there arises a real threat to the open society. Neo-Nazis are pathetic losers. Why curtail civil liberties to stop them? But when a real threat - such as jihadism - arises, a liberal democratic society must deploy every resource, including the repressive powers of the state, to deter and defeat those who would abolish liberal democracy.

A liberal Democratic society using repressive powers is an oxymoron.

It would be more accurate to say a conservative republican society employing state powers.

Let's not forget that liberal Democrats, using politically correct laws, are those who insist that there be no profiling of middle eastern men; that grandmothers are searched at airports to provide "balanced" searches.

Let's not forget the liberal Democratic NY Times who publishes every American soldier's death, and minimizes the deaths of Iraqi terrorists.

And, let's not forget that it was a liberal Democratic president who pooh-poohed the capture of Bin Laden before 9/11.

A liberal democratic society is a society bent on self destruction, and hasn't the capacity for self defense no matter how many liberties are put on hold.

I think that this is the argument....its ok to be intolerant to the intolerant.....that leftists use to deny access to practically everything to conservatives!

I can hear them (have heard in fact) that these people are too intolerant to be allowed to speak! Can't let 'em teach either.

Bakri complained that it would be unfair to have him deported from the country he reviled

Bakri's complaints of unfairness and his perceived 'right' to receive welfare from the infidels he seeks to destroy are consistent with the Koran's teaching that Muslims are superior to the infidels. Using the charitable institutions of the infidel civilization to destroy that civilization pleases Allah. It is important that leaders of the non-Muslim world recognize that Islam cannot be dealt with on the assumption that they are moral equals.

That's not true! The liberal media thinks ALL Americans are the Bad Guys.

Noachian; "liberal democratic" (lower case) does not mean Liberal Democratic (as in party affiliation). We are a liberal, democratic society - even as a republic.

Actually, that's false because the jounalists are Americans and they don't consider themselves 'bad guys', but just all non-liberal U.S. citizens.

We are a liberal, democratic society - even as a republic.

No disrespect, but you should get a good definition of the words being used (lower case - not party affiliation).

The Framers were "liberal" in their time, but that word has changed meaning over the years. The last thing the Framers wanted was a democracy, which always leads to ruin.

What this country has morphed into is more of a socialist society than a democratic society.

To say that we're a republic with a liberal democratic political system really can't be justified.
