Ontario Premier to U.S. Ambassador: It's your fault
Toronto Free Press ^ | August, 12, 2005 | Arthur Weinreb

Posted on 08/12/2005 5:58:11 AM PDT by MikeEdwards

In recent weeks, gun violence in Toronto has become so prevalent that even the lefties who think that all of society’s problems can be solved with group hugs, can’t avoid the issue. When a recent spate of gun violence happened, that included the shooting of a 4-year-old boy outside of his home, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty swung into action. The premier, who has been lately speaking about "American guns on Canadian streets" said that he would discuss the matter of guns with the new American ambassador, David Wilkins

Someone needs to tell Dalton McGuinty that Liberal gun control policies haven't helped slash Canada's crime rate... which hardly makes it America's fault. DUH.

Yes, evil guns are creeping over the border and shooting Canadians.

Control your borders and no vicious American guns will be forcing Canadians to become violent.

The cesspool of human debris that was once known a Canada is now beginning to fester and boil. Soon, it will be just like DC, NYC, Chicago and L.A. All places of absolute gun control.......the more you remove guns from society the more likely they are to be used............

Blame America, blame Bush, yada, yada, yada.

Oh BTW Mr. Ontario Premier, meet the local government of Washington DC.

DC has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US and the highest crime rate, and the liberal elite blames neighboring Virginia, with less strict gun laws and a much lower crime rate.

This is the mother superior of Ontario's nanny state, Dalton McGuinty

As an Ontarian, I agree with you. Blaming the USA is crazy. Quite frankly law enforcment in Canada should be working closely with the ATF, FBI et.al. to deal with this and other issues such as the WOT and not just holding meetings about it.

This Jane/Finch area of Toronto has been a problem for years in Toronto. Keep in mind, Toronto is a fairly safe city and I would recommend a visit.

All we have to do is strickly enforce all of the laws and properly control the borders with the existing gun laws .... and ... may I dare say ... remove that stupid gun registry for the honest farmers and hunters in our great country and spend that money on extra law enforcement and programs to help youth in troubled areas.

Wonder if the Premier has a gun. All our anti-gun libs have guns and/or armed guards in their gated homes.

The author of the article noted sarcastically that if the US ever became like Canada, the Canadian Left would beg Al-Qaeda to bomb the country into oblivion. Being anti-American is all that keeps their identity separate. If the two countries pursued the same liberal policies, there would be no more need for Canada.

Toronto is proudly displayed as the showcase of the "new" multicultural Canada.

THEY created the problem with their liberal immigration laws and fast track refugee claims.

To complete the loop you Ontarians need a woman boss like New Zealand has. Then you can get 100% of the joys of cradle to grave nanny state socialism.

I've been to Toronto quite a few times. Its a lovely and well kept city. But its mayor and Ontario's Premier would be well advised to crack down on crime at home. Not guns - but crime. The root cause of crime are criminals. Something that be obvious to Ontarians - especially those of the Liberal Party persuasion.

I blame it on the hockey lockout. Without that avenue of escape, those hosers have a ton of pent-up aggression. Good news though, with the resumption of hockey this fall, the Molson's will flow, the incidents of armed aggression will fall, and our mealy-mouthed neighbors to the north can return to their socialist, pacifist ways.

In the US at least, most apparent gun problems are actually drug problems. A rational set of drug laws would eliminate 90% of them. Legalize anything demonstrably no more harmful than booze on the same basis as booze, ban the Jeckyl/Hyde formulas like PCP, and make perscription drugs out of everything else. That would eliminate 75% of all urban crime in a single stroke.

And here I was thinking Canada's $1 billion gun registry boondoggle would have ushered in a gun free and a crime free nirvana by now. Silly me.

Odd. Gun violence is up in Great Britian and Australia as well. Are US guns to blame there as well, or perhaps can we blame the policy of disarming law abiding citizens?

Yeah, that will solve it. A discussion. If I was the U.S. ambassador during that discussion, I would sit there the entire time, smiling, while I imagined the Cunuck's wife naked. Yawn.

Excuse me, but NYC has one of the lowest violent crime rates of any big city in the Country, including DFW, Houston, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Birmingham, Phoenix, Denver, and just about every other city that has gun laws that are far less restrictive than the laws in NYC. I'm not suggesting that there is a cause and effect. What I am suggesting is that you learn your facts before you make such stupid generalizations.

Bingo. The common thread is the disarming of the law abiding public and the coddling of the criminal element. Proximity to nasty ol' 2nd amendment America has little or nothing to do with it. The Premier (even the f***er's title sounds gay) should shut his trap and our ambassador should give him the same instructions our Vice President gave Sen. Dodd.

Anything that comes out of Dahmer McGuinty's mouth is suspect - he's broken every single promise in office, so fear not - this is not a credible voice.

And then you have his lib buddy, Mayor Miller, who made a HUGE flip flop campaigning not to increase the police force, and then surpassing his conservative rival in calling for 250 new officers.

Liberals, sure we believe them...

New York City has one of the lowest violent crime rates "of any big city" for a couple of very basic reasons: 1) it's a police state (nearly 40,000 law enforcement officers, and that's just on the municipal level); and 2) it's a very expensive place to live, which means that most of the city's criminal element has simply moved into neighboring urban/suburban areas. I know for certain that violent crime has escalated dramatically in places like Westchester, Nassau, and Rockland Counties in New York and in much of northern New Jersey.

Love Toronto, love the downtown, the Royal York, the lake, etc. Sometimes politicians on both sides of our border blow off for local consumption. If I were the US ambassador, I'd take a two week vacation, in Calgary.

Especially the CN Tower - now North America's tallest building. If Toronto is too "Eastern European" for you in its architectural appearance, you can always head for Montreal and soak in the ambiance of Little France by the St. Lawrence.

McGuinty, you freak - don't be blaming America for the failure of your Canadian Customs & Immigration Service to do their job.

IOW, what Dick Cheney said to Leaky Leahy, got it?

NYC had 8.1 million people, which is more than twice the population of the next largest city. Lots of people, lots of cops, but not a "police state" by any means. Although there are areas in the Borough of Manhattan that rank with the most expensive places to live in the world, the vast majority of NYC residents live in the the outer boroughs, which are not all that expensive, and in many areas, significantly less expensive than the burbs. I live in the northern burbs, and the violent crime rate is almost non-existant. Many of the "near burbs" are as expensive, if not more expensive than NYC, so if the criminal element can't afford Astoria, Brownsville, and East New York, then they certainly can't afford New Rochelle, White Plains, Huntington, Wantagh, or New City. Unlike NYC, the gun laws in the northern burbs are not that strict. I carry a shotgun in the back of my truck and a legal concealed weapon. If the violent crime rate in the burbs has, in fact, escalated dramatically (and I generally don't think that it has), then I suspect that the reason has nothing to do with the gun laws.
