Great thread tonight, all of you. Ping me the next time "oldies" comes up--most of my CD collection is pre-1990, weighted heavily toward 60s...
Thanks for making my night.
Prayers and thanks for our troops serving at home and abroad. Would love to hear where they are and what they are doing (and listening to) next time.
Please put me on the music ping list.
I'm loading a couple "oldies" now.
Pacific Ocean (Aug. 11, 2005) - Chief Warrant Officer Enrico Orfiguerra checks the radar screen in the pilothouse aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Thomas S. Gates (CG 51), while standing as watch while underway for PANAMAX 2005. PANAMAX is a training exercise in defense of the Panama Canal involving 15 countries. The Panama Canal is critical to the free flow of trade and goods in the Western Hemisphere and the entire world. The region's economy and stability largely depend on the safe transport of several hundred million tons of cargo that transit through the canal every year. U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Jacksonville, Fla. (Aug. 10, 2005) - Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class Anthony Versage, right, and Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class Ramon Diaz replace a main landing gear tire on one of their squadron's P-3C Orion aircraft. Genre: Celtic/Irish
Artist: The Chieftains featuring John Hiatt
Song: Jordan Am Hard Road To Travel
Sidenote: One of MoJo's favorite songs of that persuasion!
Okay! Not nearly as good as Irish drinking songs, but close enough!
Lyrics below:
I'm gonna sing you a brand new song
It's all the truth for certain
We can't live high if we get by
And get on the other side of Jordan
Oh pull off your overcoat and roll up your sleeves
Jordan is a hard road to travel
Pull off your overcoat and roll up your sleeves
Jordan is a hard road to travel I believe.
The public schools and the highways
are causing quite an alarm
Get a country boy educated just a little
and he won't work on the farm
Now I don't know but I believe I'm right
the auto's ruined the country
Let's get back to the horse and buggy
and try to save some money.
I know a man an evangelist
his tabernacle's always full
The people come from miles around
just to hear him shoot the bull
You can talk about your evangelists
you can talk about Mr. Ford too
But Henry's shaking more hell out of the folks
than all the evangelists do.
