Something troubles me about this story. I'm sure there is some truth to what happened but I don't understand why Rumsfeld or Myers didn't do the "rebuking?" Casey was the Army Vice Chief before taking his current job and he knows that you don't talk out of school. I can't believe Bush would have bypassed the SecDef. Could it be that Rummy had already cleared Casey's remarks?

I lived overseas and I noticed that the foreign press often reported what they wished was happening in the USA rather than what actually was happening.
Reason you havent heard about Bush "slapping down" this guy in the press here, is it didnt happen.
There is nothing wrong with saying that the American commitment can be reduced when Iraqis are able to take over.

While Russian isnt a democracy, or at least much of one, the threat has been lessened.
Problem is Ive hrad that the Chinese govt is actually more reasonable than the average Chinese citizen

IF the general did say this - he has forgotten that he follows orders just as the men in the field do. And I imagine Dubya via Rummy will remind him in no uncertain terms.
