Protesters near ranch counter mom's message

CRAWFORD, Texas – Waving American flags and "Stay the Course" placards, several hundred supporters of President Bush rallied Saturday in the ditch across from the anti-war camp down the road from his ranch. On the edge of town, under the shade trees of Tonkawa Falls Park, another several hundred demonstrators gathered to support Cindy Sheehan, who's been demanding a meeting with the president to confront him about the war in Iraq, in which her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, was killed.

The Bush supporters, rallied Saturday by KLIF (570 AM) radio talk show host Darrell Ankarlo, had followed a smaller, similar protest Friday night, organized by syndicated talk show host Mike Gallagher of KRLD (1080 AM). "We just thought we'd come out and let these folks know that there are other people who believe differently," Mr. Ankarlo said. "I don't agree with everything the president does, but I support my commander in chief in the decision he made." Ken Stone, a 42-year-old electrical engineer from Dallas, said he had answered Mr. Ankarlo's rallying call for similar reasons. He had wanted to show the president that he was "willing to sacrifice this time and effort and show support," he said, adding: "Maybe, it'll give him the strength to stand under the criticism." And John Wilson, a 45-year-old inventory control specialist from Corinth, Texas, noted that Casey Sheehan had volunteered for the Army. "He made a decision to sign up for the war," Mr. Wilson said, "and he even re-enlisted." Still, there's a growing sense that more than a few nerves are being frayed in the community. And there's a new banner strung between two trees in one yard outside town, with a message: "My son risks his life every day as a police officer. I support President Bush and our troops."

The truth from one paper -- finally.

At least the Dallas Morning News is willing to tell the truth.

Excellent. The voices of Hate America First very much need to be countered wherever they pop up.

Good work, FReepers!

A little bias, perhaps, on the part of the writer?

Dear Cindy,

I'm writing this letter slow because I know you can't read fast.

I don't live where we did when you left home for Crawford. I read in the newspaper that most accidents happen within 20 miles from your home, so I moved. I won't be able to send you the address because the last family that lived here took the house numbers when they moved so that they wouldn't have to change their address.

This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine. I'm not sure it works so well though, last week I put a load in and pulled the chain and haven't seen them since. The weather isn't bad here. It only rained twice last week, the first time for three days and the second time for four days.

About that coat you wanted me to send you, your good friend, Michael Moore said it would be too heavy to send in the mail with the buttons on, so we cut them off and put them in the pockets. Your other friend, Barbara Streisand, locked her keys in the car yesterday. We were really worried because it took her two hours to get me and your father out. Your sister had a baby this morning, but I haven't found out if you are an aunt or uncle. The baby looks just like Martin Sheen. Your adopted Uncle Ted Kennedy, fell in a whiskey vat last week. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off valiantly and drowned. We had him cremated and he burned for three days. Three of your friends went off a bridge in a pick-up truck. Uncle Jesse Jackson was driving. He rolled down the window and swam to safety. Your other two friends were in back. They drowned because they couldn't get the tailgate down.

There isn't much more news at this time. Nothing much has happened. Hope you get a trailer in Crawford soon.

Sincerely,
Your ex-husband Bob

P.S. I was going to send you some money down to your new camp in Crawford but the envelope was already sealed.

In the ditch, like the dogs they are, lurked the evil conservative pigs; under the cool, sunshiney beauty of the trees, the angelic faces of the Sheehan protestors were bathed in a warm glow...

Bias? I'd say so!

re: who's been demanding a meeting with the president

Objective reporting would require this sentence to read "who's been demanding a ANOTHER meeting with the president." The families of most American fighting men and women who die defending their country don't get even a single meeting with the Command-in-Chief, let alone a second meeting.

I liken this to the loser of the Super Bowl going into the post game news conference congratulating the winner on a great game and then six months later badmouthing the winner with the excuse that the winning team had dared to mention their win in later appearances. What did this lady expect the President to say when he addressed the NRC?

Her 15 minutes of fame will soon be over.

I pray daily for her grief. No mother should have to go through what she has experienced. Her son volunteered for military duty. He died obeying orders. Orders that he had sworn to obey even if he didn't agree with them, or see the purpose of the orders. She is not honoring the memory of her son when she second-guesses him and his superiors. I would wager even money that conservatives feel a great deal more respect and honor for her son than those who are using her to further their antiwar, anti-American feelings.

Had this been a pro-Iraqi American engagement and there was but 1 anti-American engagement person protesting, the MSM would have cameras and print reporters 10 deep.

I LOVE Ankarlo & listen to him often. He has a son, Adam, in the military and both are passionate about supporting our President and the soldiers. A few images from his website (he also has a roadmap to Crawford and the ranch for anyone who wants to join them:

Not entirely untrue, though. I'm not sure that part was necessary, but I was indeed standing in a ditch part of the time.

It's sad when politics intrudes on the President's "getaway" time. How would Ms. Cindy like it if several hundred Bush supporters followed her around on her next "vacation"? Oh right, except that conservatives are much more decent, caring folk even though Ms. Cindy seems to have changed her mind about that too!

"Our nation grieves the death of every man and woman we lose in combat, and our hearts go out to the loved ones who mourn them," he said. "Yet, even in our grief, we can be confident in the future, because the darkness of tyranny is no match for the shining power of freedom."

"The terrorists cannot defeat us on the battlefield. The only way they can win is if we lose our nerve," he said. "That will not happen on my watch."

The Far Left who did not win this election has pulled out all stops to get their way. Deceit, lying, proganda, the detestable fraud of trying to portray an Anti-American Senator as a Legitimate War Hero. Having lost despite everything and huge sums of money expended, sabotage of the other sides offices, vandalizing vehicles, they are now trying to turn public opinion through deceit against the War. But the public sees through it. And the MSM no longer has a monopoly on public discourse. Look for more desperate means to aid the Terrorists on the part of the left.

Note too that the Father of Sargeant Randall Shugart MOH recipient had a tirade with Bill Clinton that was ignored by the MSM over Operation Gothic Serpent. Ms. Sheehan may be having Mental Problems. That the MSM and the Far Left is using her is dispicable. Her own relatives are repudiating her actions. And it is clear that she has either lied about the incident or honestly believes that it happened differently. Meaning she has had a break with reality. She maybe Mentally ill.

Specialist Casey Sheehan died with honor. He was a Volunteer not a draftee. That distinction is omitted from much of the press. Hooah.

Unfortunately, the President cannot escape politics. That is part and parcel of his position, a position he chose. Entering into the office willingly, he chose to accept that these things would happen.

That said, I'd like to make a counter-statement that I think you'll agree with, given the sentiment of your post.

"It's sad when baseless, senseless, political idiocy intrudes on the President's 'getaway' time."

I think that captures what both of us want to say, while still recognizing that the President can't get away from politics. Heck, even though the media is downplaying it, he HAS been working on this "vacation."
