Another thing that I'm doing is - - my son was killed in 2004, so I'm not paying my taxes for 2004. If I get a letter from the IRS, I'm gonna say, you know what, this war is illegal; this is why this war is illegal. This war is immoral; this is why this war is immoral. You killed my son for this. I don't owe you anything. And if I live to be a million, I won't owe you a penny.
And I want them to come after me, because unlike what you've been doing with the war resistance, I want to put this frickin' war on trial. And I want to say, "You give me my son, and I'll pay your taxes."

But according to Solano County, CA, Cindy Sheehan has had a tax lien on her property since 1996:

The above tax records were uncovered by Freeper RGSpincich.
kinda getting dirty here
Gotta love her. /sarcasm
Great get.
You could be on to something, using public notoriety to raise money? Not the first time it's been done.
How so?
Tax evasion is a felony. Lock her up. No one is above the law.
You are relentless.
LOL!!!
To follow the money would be to question the motives of an upstanding liberal. We certainly wouldn't want to do that. /sarc
Very Interesting *ping*
Kudos to RGSpincich for the detective work.
not really....she's opening herself up to this....she wants to take a "stand" by not paying taxes- hell, it is not out of the norm for her.
I'm so glad to see her getting the "rubber glove digital exam" treatment....the left doesn't usually receive such scrutiny.
Isn't that the truth! She is probably of the mindset that she needs OPM. Other people's money.
Lots of people try to use non-profit organizations which they set up -- as a way to make money for themselves.
So, her "con" is to use the anti-war sentiment.
Keep digging. Truth will out.
Freepers, doing the jobs reporters won't do, since 1998.

I say homeless and nuts is a great way to leave Mrs. Sheehan.

No, these are public records. No one here is trying to open sealed divorce records (the Dems in Illinois did with Ryan when he ran for governor) or open sealed adoption records (the NYT tried with John Roberts).
I want to put this frickin' war on trial. And I want to say, "You give me my son, and I'll pay your taxes."
I don't believe a tax court will let that happen.
Wonder what salary she pays herself as the head of the non-profit. Someone's got to do the clerical work, you know. ;-)

Thanks. But we need to point out that the state lien was released in August of 1997. California garnishes wages (use to be 100%) quickly for tax debts.
The IRS lien that was filed in 1998 was released in September of 2004. The source of funds for that release is being discussed. Seems her survivor benefits not only paid her delinquent taxes but served as a downpayment on a house she purchased in June of 2004.
Or smuggle them in their pants from the National Archives.
She also has bad teeth. Sorry.
Thank you--
goodness, her husband files for divorce in the last few days, it looks like..
and their taxes were in arrears before she announced she wasn't going to pay her taxes THIS YEAR because President Bush won't speak to her?
WOW-what a life!
Lol, no. It doesn't work that way. In the case of property tax liens, if they aren't payed, the property can be seized, and then be auctioned off, with the owner getting all the proceeds above and beyond those used to pay the property tax. You just can't buy the property for the price of the back taxes. lol, I wish though, I wish.

But try to find it listed on any of the data base lists...I can't find it.
I'm not sure about all the terminology, but in the first example it actually looks like the lein was released, satisfied or withdrawn (Rel/Sat/With) by the govt. in 1997.
Seems possible.

Some tooth whitener is in order for her.
The data you provided shows the lien released in 1997.
Sure looks like they are not a 501(c)3:

The previous owner then has something like 90 days to come up with the cash, plus interest of course, or the person who paid the tax bill is the new owner all nice and legal.
Too bad it doesn't work that way in CA.

And guess who's taking the donations that are paying St. Cindy's way...? (Can you say 'tax dodge...?')
"The data you provided shows the lien released in 1997."
Could you explain how it shows that? (I'm not saying it doesn't. I just am not seeing it. But I'm not tax expert.)
kinda getting dirty here
Maybe..but I thought all of a sudden her making this anti-tax statement was weird.

Guide Star uses publicly released IRS records for its database, which are usually at least a couple of years old. If Gold Star Moms for Peace is a newly orgainzed 501c3, they won't be in GuideStar yet.
If, as it now seems, she used the insurance to pay back taxes and buy a new house--what is she living on now?
If that is the case, isn't it interesting that Cindy owed tax money from 1998. Then paid off the debt by September 21, 2004.
Her son was killed in April, 2004.
If there's any indication that any of Sheehan's personal finances are being funnelled through said 501(c)3, shouldn't that outfit automagically lose its exemption?
Blood money.
"If, as it now seems, she used the insurance to pay back taxes and buy a new house--what is she living on now?"
That's the way it looks to me.
On top of that, she claims she is using Casey's insurance money to travel around the country (and overseas) to propagandize for his murders 24/7 since his death.
That must have been a large policy.
If it's the standard military policy, it shouldn't go as far as this seems to be going.
Yes it is... However, if you public proclaim your not pay your taxes as a political protest... you do legitimately open your self up the question ""have you in fact pay your taxes in the past... However also, one recored Tax Liens in the country recored in not a smoking gun in it's self...I had one for a 50 dollar property tax payment mix up... learn the details before going off half cocked
Bottom like you come at this like a lynch mob you make a martyr ...best to just to give a little rope and see if they hang them selves or an the very least they put it around there neck and we provided a well timed kick or tug
I think it's the ditch water. :o)
You all realize, don't you, that as long as Cindy can keep this dog and pony show going, she won't have to go home and learn how to live a life without Casey in it? Instead of using her energy to deal with her heartache, she's gonna kick up a fuss. Only problem is, at some point, she WILL have to go home. All her posse won't be there to continually direct her attention and her energies. She needs our prayers....and a whole team of shrinks!
