well. it takes a scream to eject the foot from his mouth from the last time he stuck it in, and only his foot is big enough to cork his screams... it's a vicious cycle..

Actually, the Iraqi brand of shiism is different from the Iranian one. E.g, Ayatollah al-Sistani is for separation of state and religion.

I guess he figures getting raped and tortured is better than having to wear a veil.

On the other hand, it would be nice of those nujobs over there came into the 18th Century at least.

Every time he opens his mouth, if it isn't a scream coming out it's a foot going in

LOL... how true! What a great statement... somehow that line needs to be made into a bumper sticker. ;-)

"the Iraqi brand of shiism is different from the Iranian one"

I have heard that Sistani doesn't think clerics should be directly involved in the government, the way they are in Iran, and that's good, but I still think the Iraqi Shias want a fairly strict, Koran-based morality enforced at least in their areas of Iraq, a morality that implies great restrictions on women. So, in a way, it's separation of church and state, and, in another way, it's not.

The left's fear (or is it hope?) is that Iraq will become a Sharia based country like Saudi Arabia or, more likely, Iran. Sadaam and his boys tortured women, but at least on paper, women had more legal rights than in other Muslim countries, and apparently did sometimes occupy higher social roles in business, science, and even the military.

Women weren't in burqas and could speak with men outside their household. Iraqi women were about as liberated as any Muslim women have ever been. Far more so than in other places except maybe the Turks, Palis and Jordanians.

Actually, it probably is a fair statement that women were better off unless they or their families opposed Saddam.

Saddam claimed to be a good Muslim but he was actually less religious than nearly all the other Muslim leaders.

Good grief... I hope he keeps talking. He is the greatest weapon the Republicans have.

Sadly, at some point, Hillary is going to swoop down and kick his a$$.

And anyone wonders why the Democratic symbol is the Jackass? Howard Dean makes jackasses look smart by comparison.
