ANDREA MITCHELL CARRIES OBLIGATORY ANTI-JEANINE WATER FOR HILLARY CLINTON

MS. MITCHELL: But let's also talk about another political battle which is Hillary Clinton's new opponent in New York. Let's take a look at what could be one of the most lively races, Jeanine Pirro, the county D.A. in Westchester County, who launched her campaign, and take a look at her launch. Here she is trying to describe and explain why she is running again Hillary Clinton. She had a page missing. Not exactly a great kickoff.
E.J., is this a real threat to Mrs. Clinton?
MR. DIONNE: I think that Ms. Pirro's challenge is not to have her entire campaign defined by the sentence, "Do you have page 10?" It was really a remarkable moment. Look, she's a lady...
MS. MITCHELL: And her husband was nowhere in sight, of course. He is a convicted felon. Is this also going to be race where you've got two very accomplished women trying to keep their husbands off of the podium?
MR. DIONNE: Given the comparison, I think Mrs. Clinton may bring out her husband as often as possible. You know, she is taking a chance. Mrs. Clinton is way ahead in the polls. She's been a very good politician in New York state and Ms. Pirro is hoping to get at least some attention out of this. She's got to run at least better than Congressman Lazio did against Mrs. Clinton last time, which wasn't that good. This was not an auspicious start for her campaign.
MS. MITCHELL: But, Byron, does Hillary Clinton have to come up with an answer in '06 when she's running for reelection as to whether or not she is then going to turn around and run for president in '08?
MR. YORK: I don't think so. I don't think she's facing an unforgiving public in New York, and I think if she runs for reelection and wins, which she most likely will, she'll be able to turn around and run for president and not alienate any of her supporters, although her husband did say recently that, you know, you lookyou have to look to the next election or you may not get past the next election.
ndrea Mitchell, who confessed recently she eats no bread, apparently has no problem swallowing her pride.
Illustrating that the difference between useful idiot and purveyor of access journalism is academic, Ms. Mitchell raced through missus clinton's risible talking points du jour yesterday, under the theory, so it seems, that increased velocity decreases, if not absurdity, notice.

- Jeanine Pirro's missing page 10 is an indelible stain, a veritable automatic disqualifier: This, coming from the candidate whose reams of "missing" inculpatory billing records magically reappeared in the White House living quarters the instant the statute of limitations had run. Andrea's embarrassment was palpable.
- ASIDE: Jeanine is very bright, articulate, media savvy and charismatic. She's a natural. Precisely why the clinton machine zeroed in on this insignificant performance ruffle. They desperately want to redefine Jeanine as a dud, "you know," along the lines of their candidate.

One thing the clinton machine does have right: Al is no bill.
"Bird of paradise" would have been a brilliant wrong answer for the New-York-state-bird question; in one fell swoop it would have flattered the necessary constituency, rendered hillary's cheating marginally believable and suggested a quick, secure, creative mind.
