So, is it true plasma TVs only last a couple years (or, at least, very few hours when compared to CRTs and/or LCDs)?

I need a new TV but just hate to do the research. So many varibles, and salemen( it's ok ) trying to make a buck. Home Theater/Entertainment systems is one of the biggest headache purchases a consumer can make.

In another year the prices will fall in half again. Rmember your first computer at 3-4,000, then 2500, then 1500, now 699. 42 inch will be well under a thousand inside 2 years.

Great news.
Now, if there were only something worth watching on TV!

The old DuMont still works fine. Just needs a new vacuum tube. Check back when prices fall under $500.00

Murphy's Law dictates that in two years or so, affordable flat screen TVs will finally show up at Wal-mart and K-mart. Once they've broken the $500 barrier.

$4200 for a tv? Think that's bad? How 'bout $13,000 + for a plasma tv? Yikes!

Just wait til they sell analog 27 inch color TV sets for $50. And you'll wonder why you paid $600 for one a decade ago.

Just got a Toshiba DLP TV a few weeks ago. Looks gorgeous and was a great deal compared to LCD or plasma tvs which were at least twice the price for the same size.
Now all I need is FoxNews and History Channel to be broadcast in HD.

Whenever I check out the HDTVs at Circuit City or Best Buy, I am always stunned at how random the picture quality is from one model to the next. And there is little correlation between price/brand name and picture quality.

There are competing HDTV formats. The market can support only one and at that point you'll see consistent quality and lower costs across the board. Just like what happened with VCRS and DVDS.

No problem. Norton's new Internet Security Anti-Spyware Edition has finally settled down with a software update. But how is this germane to a discussion of flat-screen TVs? All things being equal, new technology does get better with time.

My tvs are 14 yrs. old and still
work just fine.
I have thought about a flat screen for
the bedroom, but I'm not in any hurry.
