You sound like a Liberal on a conservative website.

No. I'm a realist. Anyone who wants to can see that we have basically legalized border-jumping in this country.

You defend what is clearly a violation of the law by making excuses to legitimize the illegal activity on our southern border.

I have defended nothing. I am simply pointing out what the reality is now. For all intents and purposes, our immigration laws are as ignored as sodomy laws were before the recent Supreme Court decision.

You can ignore the situation, if you like. But calling illegals "criminals" is hardly accurate, based on how we treat our own immigration laws.

Illegals are criminals as long as the law says it is a crime. The very reason we have a military is to defend our borders in order to maintain our sovereinty.

Finding the right people to enforce the immigration laws is the answer . This country is in the mist of a grass roots movement to make that happen and most of us on FR can't wait for the immigration laws to be fully enforced.

The immigration laws as they are now are unenforceable, and any person who has looked at anything except a FR thread knows it. It would take a police state to enforce the laws, a complete indifference to human suffering, and a willingness to endure an economic cataclysm the likes of which you have never seen if we suddenly shut the border and deported the illegals. The naivete of those advocating this is staggering.

There are good, pro market, pro law, pro mercy ways to gain control of the border and document the resident aliens here. We won't get it, though, as long as the people leading the vanguard are dolts who are at the end of their tether when they quit shrieking "ILLEGALS!!! CLAMP DOWN THE BORDERS AND EXPEL THEM ALL!!!"

No WONDER the politicians ignore that crowd. I had rather argue with a woman with PMS. You walk away from the other party in hysterics kicking yourself while you shake your head saying "WHY did I try and reason with that??????"

I have read some of your previous posts, I wouldn't consider you the type to supporter the MMP. Your view on illegal immigration slants heavily toward the left and when in doubt you start calling FReepers wacko's.

Whatever your agenda is I don't care, we will continue to press for control of the border regardless.

It's a sin to profit at the expense of your nation's laws.

"Say a Mexican makes 20 pesos a day ($1.80) working on his farm, but he can make 80 pesos in the United States," Casillas said. "So he'll go to the United States and hire a Guatemalan to take care of his farm for 20 pesos a day."

I did not realize that. Now I don't feel so sorry for some of these illegals. Everybody is getting cheap labor except you and me!

Real estate agents are helping illegal immigrants realize their dreams of ownership
And grocers are helping them realize their dream of eating.

I'm opposed to illegal immigration but this headline is an embarassing joke.

You listed 4 border options but you forgot to add "because...." after each option to explain your statements.

May I remind you and others that calling people "stupid" and other personal negatives is not recommended. We all have our points of view which might be considered if written without the insults.

The border problem is serious. In our area some of the illegals are paid better than locals (yes, I know this for a fact. If you notice my "handle" I translate Spanish so I know what they're whispering in groups when they think the Gringos can't understand). Some of them make $200 or better a day, and according to many I have spoken with - from the horse's mouth -- they send a quarter or half back home.) Even after that they net more than many workers. They live in large groups, pay very little rent, pay no taxes in many cases, and collect all the freebies they can get (welfare, free medical treatment for the diseases they bring in like TB and STDs, plus free food wherever there's weekly church or county give-aways). Sure, some are exploited and receive low wages, but they're getting much smarter. They network. They compete for the best jobs in construction now; I can tell you that because we own a construction company and we are frequently underbid by the outfits who hire only illegals. Why? Because they aren't having to turn in Soc. Sec. money on each worker or pay comp so they can pay a little more in cash. Most of the illegals think it's a joke. The cops won't do anything because there's a hands-off directive. If they get caught speeding, the obviously fake license with a common American name on it is ignored; they pay a fine and they're released. If they assault someone and get jail time they are not deported. If you don't believe this read up on the Oswaldo Martinez case in Williamsburg, VA. Illegal caught in 2004 with stolen SS card, released, rapes and kills teenage girl in 2005 and won't stand trial EVER. Why? Because he's deaf. Basically, these people crash in, roam at will, drive cars with fake plates and no insurance, and have a pretty good time of it. They dump their wives in Mexico or wherever, and marry American girls if possible. They pursue the American girls. I see this all the time around where we work. They usually don't bother learning English. The well-meaning but naive bleeding hearts who want to save everyone don't realize that we have to get mighty picky about who comes in. These are very dangerous times and all it would take is one terrorist slipping by to blow up Hoover Dam or worse. What's the solution? I honestly don't know - it's so out of control now I'm not sure what to do, except to first stop any MORE from coming in illegally. As long as people in Beverly Hills and the like want pool boys, gardeners, maids, nannies and chauffers...there will always be jobs for illegals. I voted for Bush, supported him with the war bit, support the military...but this illegal alien thing is where he and I have a parting of the ways.

Actually, I did not. There is no law of grammar or reasoning which states that one must provide a codicil of explanation immediately following an assertion. The explanations are further down in the argument. If you missed them, there is nothing I can do for you. If you disagree with them, I am happy to talk.

May I remind you and others that calling people "stupid" and other personal negatives is not recommended.

I called no one stupid, although I did swap insult for opprobrium with the neural cipher who accused me and any other pro-open border advocate of being antinomian. I get sick and tired of the halfwits who stand in the corner with their fingers in their ears and shriek "ILLEGAL" and accuse anyone who doesn't advocate a military enforced border of being some mecha quoting socialist or a greedy corporate bastard out to screw over the American worker. If we could get past that starting point my own level of vitriol goes down. So, while I thank you for the advice on rhetoric, I think I will pass. You will notice, though, that I throw no scorn your way.

The border problem is serious.

I agree, although I think your worries about Mexicans being potential terrorists to be silly. I am far far more worried about the openly Islamofascists who live on our OTHER unprotected, porous border. We have documented cases of those guys coming across to do us harm. That said, the problems of the border with Mexico are going to HAVE to be addressed. That is why I posted a potential answer to address it. It is pro-immigrant, pro-freedom, and pro-market. I am not saying it is perfect, but it makes a helluva lot more sense to me than trying to build a 2000 mile fence. If you have critiques that address problems with my proposal, I am open to talk.
