Larry Northern of Waco
Self | 08/16/2005 | Tex 52

Posted on 08/16/2005 5:32:55 PM PDT by Tex52

Just wanted to let Freepers know that Larry Northern, the man that knocked down the crosses outside the Bush ranch, is a Purple Heart winner from Vietnam. He was wounded by shrapnel that hit his juglar vein. I think maybe he had enough of Shean. She brings back the worst of how our soldiers were treated after Vietnam.

Please do not act as if I'm an idiot. Of course if you leave a cooler by the road, it can't and shouldn't be expected to be protected. You said, "I don't think they got permission from the state to do this." Perhaps we will learn soon whether or not they did have permission.

But you know what? Permission, or no permission. What this man did has brought the focus of this situation on US. We, as Republicans and Conservatives, are being painted with the same brush as the one painting this guy as a crazy, war-mongering, typical Conservative. How can that be o.k. with anyone?

If one of our school hockey players, vandalizes something in another school rival's town, it makes OUR school, and OUR team look bad. Is that right, is it fair? Not really. In this situation, we're talking about the rage of the MSM in this situation, we're talking Liberal talking points, and we are being treated as if WE, had personally, done this.

However, as far as you not having "a problem with it", I disagree. I do not see that it helps our cause, as Republicans and Conservatives, to have "one of our own" (so to speak) do something like this. This man gave the Dems, the ultra-Libs, and the MSM the ammunition to use against us. We will be smeared, and ARE being smeared

Fair enough. Though as a life-long gun nut (and not the pretty, double-barrel engrvaed shotgun-type gun nut), I've come to the personal conclusion that the commies are going to "smear" us no matter what we do; if we do nothing "bad," they'll make something up.

I'm WAY past the "hearts and minds," popularity contest view of politics anyway. But I see where you're comin' from...

I don't think the guy should have done it. I said so. But I am not going to condemn a purple heart award winner for getting fed up with the kind of stuff that caused us to lose Vietnam.

Can I come up there and run over NY protesters' signs with my pickup during the next RNC convention?

Would that be a crime?

What in the world is the matter with you? This wasn't the crime of the century. He knocked down a PR stunt. What gives Sheehan the right to put up crosses with the names of OTHER peoples family and include them in her agenda? Notice the little flags on the ones in the second pic but NO flags in the top pic.

You confirmed what I've been thinking about you. You are NOT crazy, you're downright reasonable! Cool! LOL

I totally understand where you're coming from. The Liberal Loons will always find some ammunition to shoot us with. I just prefer to not be their ammo supplier.

I'm a gun "nut" myself. More out of necessity than any other reason. I hunt for meat, I protect myself from grizzly bears, and of course the most dangerous....the two-legged variety. LOL

Larry Northern, 59, of McLennan County, was charged Tuesday with Criminal Mischief Over $1,500 and under $20,000 after a pickup truck tore through a row of white crosses erected by anti-war protesters gathered near the President’s ranch in Crawford.

Bail was set at $3,000. Northern later posted bond and was released.

The crosses bear the names of U.S. military personnel who have died in the war in Iraq.

Witnesses said the driver swerved the truck in and out of the makeshift memorial Monday night.

The protesters who are camped out in Crawford expressed outrage at the vandalism.

Cindy Sheehan, the California woman around whom the protesters have rallied since Aug. 6, is the focal point of national controversy.

She is demanding a meeting with the President about the death of her son Casey, a 1st Cavalry Division soldier who was killed last year in Iraq.

“Our hearts are broken about this,” Sheehan said in a prepared statement about the destruction of the crosses released Tuesday afternoon.

“ We continue to work closely with local law enforcement offices and the secret service to be good neighbors,” she said.

I also honor this man's service in Vietnam. My cousin served in Vietnam, and none of those soldiers received the support and sincere gratitude that they deserved. I realize that he was "fed up", and emotionally, I totally understand that. Unfortunately, it didn't help us at all. This woman will get even more MSM air time, and now instead of it being directed at her antics, HE is the focus right now. That doesn't help us. It just doesn't. God bless him for his service. :)

How can we find out if this was a public right-of-way, and if they had permission? I'm running around here at home so maybe I missed the answer to that. If so, please don't flame me. One more hot-flash and I'll turn to ashes. LOL

You know that grass is getting really tall. How is the state or anyone else suppose to mow that grass? Are they suppose to just let it grow for 6 weeks or forever?

I must be an old softy here. As the mother of a soldier who served in Iraq, I felt a real tug of sadness at those crosses, with the names of our heroes, laying there along the road. Yes, I know, they are being used for political reasons by a woman, and her cohorts, who are using their deaths..... Still, just something about that picture brought tears to my eyes. One says, "Jason C. Ford". May he and the others rest in peace and God bring comfort to their families broken hearts.

...it makes OUR school, and OUR team look bad.

Larry Northern may be very surprised to find himself on a team like OURS where evidently image is everything.

I hope it gave him a great deal of satisfaction similar to what my brother felt when he finally got to confront Jane Fonda.

Those names on the crosses belong to honorable men and women. They do not belong to the protesters or to OUR team.

Those names were being desecrated and Larry Northern had the kajones to do something about it.

I understand, I really do. I am not perfect, I also feel so very angry at this woman and those who are supporting this shameful display. FWIW, our son fought in Iraq, and you just have no idea the depth of my anger when people like this woman (I refuse to say her name ever again if I can help it) use the deaths of our, my heroes, for her political reasons.

I really do need to get off this thread. It's just not good for this ole military mom. sigh

P.S. I am not a lawyer. I just know where to find all the applicable Texas laws online.

See post 73... the crosses are within inches of the pavement. The highway ROW in Texas is usually the pavement plus about 10 feet on either side of the pavement.

As far as permission, you are getting into jurisdictional areas that I wouldn't know how to research. It depends on if the highway is in an incorporated city/town, if the state is responsible for the maintenance of the highway section, plus other ifs, ands, or buts.

I know in Dallas, you can leave a memorial up for 24 hours at the location of a vehicle accident with a death, but after 24 hours it is a free target.

I understand. Truly. But I'm more angry at Sheehan. She told the Prez not to use her sons name to further his war. But she'll use the names of others dead heroes to further HER agenda. 3 families in 2 days have asked for their sons names to be removed as their sons would disagree with Sheehans motives. I understand how Larry feels. Sheehan is hijacking their honor and spitting on their sacrifice.

(and I understand your hot flashes too! dang glad I'm done with that!)

BTW, I was not trying to imply that this is all about "image". I'm a black and white kind of gal. It is what it is, kind of person. And I knew that what this man did would hurt those of us who support our troops and believe in their mission. Oh, it'll all pass. I know that. I just want people to help support our troops and our President in a positive way. I do feel bad for this man. He's a Vietnam vet. He has a right to be angry, just as I am angry with these protestors. ahhh, 'nuf said
