The mysterious giant sinkhole in Smith County is getting bigger.
It's now up to 80 feet in diameter. And water has started to bubble up from the bottom.
It has become quite an attraction for the public. And TX-DOT says that's dangerous. Crews have put up more barriers to keep people from getting too close and possibly hurting themselves.
The sinkhole formed Sunday morning, and it was close to 100 feet deep. Since then, more pavement and dirt have fallen in.
TX-DOT plans to send out scientists in the next couple of days to figure out the cause.

Is this one of the areas in Texas that continues to be in a drought?
Smith county is in East Texas. Claude, TX is in the panhandle. Smith County has been under a drought. http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html

Thanks...folks think sink holes, cracks are something unusual...9 x's out of 10 it's easily explainable...drought is a major cause.

Hate to tell you this, but you need to boresight your drill. Well, I'm here in East Tennessee - and we're firing the device from out on a desert island in the Pacific. We got pretty close....
