Yeah, but it appears that they were rather ambitious criminals, as opposed to budding terrorists. They'd previously used explosives to knock over slot machines, and were planning to blow up ticket machines next. The dead kid had double-digit crime statistics.

In his last conviction in June 2004 he was sentenced for 17 car thefts, threats, robbing a store, drug abuse and violence against a civil servant.

"Sweet justice"? It did state that he had any evil intentions with the bomb. Maybe he was just making a BIG firecracker and things didn't go well (obviously!). I used to build black powder bombs when I was a kid, just to detonate in a field. It was a pretty dumb thing to do, but fortunatley I didn't blow my self or anyone else up.
