Since when?
Hagel, what a putz. Now he is giving hope to the terrorists and demoralization to our troops.
This is nothing like Vietnam, except in one respect: The constant anti-war activism and unjustified griping is undermining our resolve to win.
Another Vietnam contrast/comparison:
Years it would take to match the Vietnam war's combat deaths ... about 70 years.
Size of insurgency versus Vietnamese insurgency ... it's about 5% of the size.
Zarqawi is a member of al qaeda... # of American civilians in USA killed by al qaeda = 3,000.
# of American civilians killed by vietcong in USA = 0.
"But if Sen. Hegel is saying we're getting into a stalemate and need to be open to new ideas to fight and win this war better, then I'll have to agree. The propaganda war, in particular, is not being handled well and it's costing us lives."
If there is a 'propaganda war' going on, well Hagel is playing the part of Tokyo Rose!
You know, those places Klintoon said we'd be for ONE YEAR.
(Klintoon lied, people died)
"'Looks like Hagel is competing ferociously with McCain for the VP spot on Hillary's '08 ticket.""
you realize that this isnt McCain's position.
""Hagel and McCain, I have no respect for them, fools on a hill.""
When has McCain ever said that Iraq was Vietnam and we need to get out?
This is what happens to you when you whore yourself in the MSM theater of the irrelevant.
I agree. They do not inspire any confidence I may have had in the future of the Republican Party. They are getting more and more like their buddy, JFK ( Kerry, that is ).
We are NOT in a stalemate, and Hagel knows better. WE ARE WINNING.
#1. The capability of the Iraqi forces improves every day. And Iraqi forces are doing more, and are on track to have significant training ramp-up over next months.
#2. Most hotspots like Fallujah and Mosul and Ramadi are MUCH SAFER than they were 8 months ago. #of IEDs in Mosul area is falling, for example.
#3. We are taking the fight to s**thole towns in western Iraq to disrupt the terrorists 'rat lines' from Syria. Marines took casualties in these fights, but we are making progress.
#4. If Hagel wants to help, have him tell us how he will stop Iran sending bombs into Iraq .. not just spout 'we need new ideas' and not have any.
#5. The political progress in Iraq is amazing. Sunnis sat out january, but are signing up, in Fallujah and elsewhere, to vote next time. so 8 million that voted in january will be surpassed. the constitution is on its way.
#6 the Iraqi economy is growing, oil exports are up, civil society is stabilizing despite the terrorism ... most of Iraq is moving on. Only clueless leftists and media-hog senators are stuck in 'vietnam' syndrome.
"The ONLY similarity between Iraq and Nam is the micro-management by career politicians and the press."
DITTOS. WELL SAID.
"I agree. They do not inspire any confidence I may have had in the future of the Republican Party."
Duh, why do think the Liberal-Democrat-friendly press *invites* these RINOs on to their shows?!?
You think Stephie at ABC News will book DeLay clones to give conservatives encouragement? Bah humbug.
"They are getting more and more like their buddy, JFK ( Kerry, that is )."
And the more they do, the more press they get. :-(
Iraq is not Vietnam in another way. Iraq is part of the WOT and AQ. The US was attacked directly on 9/11 resulting in over 3000 people being killed, more than at Pearl Harbor. We are fighting for our own national security. Hagel doesn't get it.
Well said.
"A leading Republican said Sunday... blah, blah, blah".
It's amazing ain't it.
Any pol with an "R" after his name who disagrees with Dubya in a matter but it echoes the tripe of the left (Iraq, WOT, Environment) all of a sudden is a "Leading Republican".
However, if said "R" pol disagrees with Dubya and goes against the leftist tripe too (open borders) - all of a sudden he's a "disgruntled Republican", i.e.: Tom Tancredo.
As far as I am concerned, Hagel is now with Cindy Sheehan and Michael Moore.
The Republican primaries are coming in a couple of years and I'm going to remember this stupid ankle-biting by the likes of Hagel and Frist. If these RINOs want to be Republican, then, by God, they should start being Republicans!
