CRAWFORD, Texas Aug 22, 2005 Joan Baez was against the Vietnam War and she showed it appearing at marches, once even blocking the entrance of a military induction center.
The folk singer is against the Iraq war, too, and she showed her support Sunday to protesters camping out near President Bush's ranch.
Baez took to the stage for about 500 people on an acre lot offered by a landowner who opposes the war, performing such classic peace anthems as "Song of Peace," "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" and "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot."
Not far way is the camp started by Cindy Seehan, whose son Casey was killed in Iraq.
"In the first march I went to (opposing Vietnam) there were 10 of us. This is huge," Baez told the relatives of fallen soldiers before performing just up the road from the ranch.
For Baez, an anti-war movement was inevitable.
"It was the final tear for the overflow and you can't stop running water," she said. "Cindy's was the final tear."
Downtown, more Bush supporters arrived at a pro-Bush camp that had been set up as a reaction to Sheehan's. As of Sunday afternoon, more than 150 people had visited the large tent with "God Bless Our President!" and "God Bless Our Troops" banners and a life-size cardboard cutout of Bush.
"When we saw this, we said, `Thank God you're here'," said Frances Lee, who came from Douglasville, Ga., with neighbor Brenda Bohanan. They planned to hold pro-Bush banners down the street from the protesters.
"We said, `We wanted y'all to know that there are people from all over the United States that care'," Lee said.
The pro-Bush camp is called "Fort Qualls," for Marine Lance Cpl. Louis Wayne Qualls, 20, killed in Fallujah last fall. His father, Gary Qualls of Temple, said the anti-war demonstrators are being disrespectful to soldiers.
Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, also died last year in Iraq. He is among more than 1,800 U.S. soldiers killed since the March 2003 invasion.
Sheehan, of Vacaville, Calif., started the anti-war demonstration on Aug. 6 and vowed to remain until Bush agreed to meet with her or until his monthlong vacation ends Sept. 3. She flew to Los Angeles last week after her 74-year-old mother had a stroke but is expected to return to Texas in a few days.
Joan seems to have forgotten too.
I remember reading the interview to Baez in Rolling Stone in the early 80's.
"Comin' for to carry me hoooooooome."
Hey, I like folk music. But if you think it is relavant today, you need to rent "A Mighty Wind."
"Nobody knows the trouble I've seen..."
As if these young air heads even know who this old prune is.
Oh boy. The old war protesters are all back. Yippee!! This is who the Democrat Party is made up of now
Joan Who? Wasn't she at that hippie thing in NY in '69? What was that called? Uh, uh, uhhhhhhhh......oh yeah.....Woodstock, that was it......naked bodies rolling around in their own poop due to rain and overflowing Port-O-Sans....
The Leftie Moonbats have activated the mothball fleet.
And I should be awed by the intellectual power of a folk singer because... ?
Kumbaya, my Lord, Kumbaya,
Kumbaya, my Lord, Kumbaya,
Kumbaya, my Lord, Kumbaya, oh, Lord, Kumbaya.
Someone`s singing, Lord, Kumbaya,
someone`s singing, Lord, Kumbaja.
Someone`s singing, Lord, Kumbaya, oh Lord, Kumbaya.
Someone`s praying, Lord, Kumbaya,
Someone`s praying, Lord, Kumbaya.
Someone`s praying, Lord, Kumbaya, oh Lord, Kumbaya.
Someone`s crying, Lord, Kumbaya,
someone`s crying, Lord, Kumbaya.
Someone`s crying, Lord, Kumbaya, oh, Lord, Kumbaya.
Someone`s sleeping Lord, Kumbaya,
someone`s sleeping, Lord, Kumbaya.
Someone`s sleeping, Lord, Kumbaya, oh, Lord, Kumbaya.
"Folk Singer Supports Anti-War Protesters"
In other headlines, dog bites man, mountain ranges stationary, ocean wet, Bubba Clintstone caught in another lie...
In 1940 he was an Isolationist. Supported Hitler (because Stalin had signed the non-aggression pact). Seeger was a committed Stalinist and if Uncle Joe liked Adolf, then Pete like Adolf too. Pete only favored WWII after Hitler attacked Stalin. For folkies like him, WWII was a war to save communism.
I like folk music.
I have contempt for most of the people who sing it.
Unless you're into wrinkly old commie indoctrination propoganda.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. (eye rolls)
Kill A Commie For Mommie
Seven Dead Monkeys Page O Tunes
Another Gjoul of 60;s Past, climbs up out of
her coffin...Time for a bigger stake....
....I thought this wrinkled up old hippie had passed on to her flower power worlds.....
Still waiting to see Arlo Guthrie and Country Joe make appearances.....guess it's inevitable....
The Democrats seemed determined to turn this into a new VietNam,and to get us to cut and bail. Good Lord, let's pray that they are not sucessful. I can tell you as a Pastor of a church in Florida, I can sense a definite switch in views on this war in my congregation. From support to questioning why we are there. Hopefully the President articulates the reasons over and over as Americans have grown weak in will. You know in Biblical history when the people of Israel got weak, the Lord sent a prophet. We need a prophetic voice to lead us and expose the danger these islamo facists are, and that their end game is to kill us and destroy our culture.
I thought she was dead. Didn't she choke on her own vomit or something back in the early 70's?
Its the same people from the Vietnam era, just trying to relive their youth. And they democrats wonder why their movement is dying?
..paging Captain Obvious, paging Captain Obvious..
She failed o mention that the new anti-war movement was held around the world with hundreds of thousands of socialists in attendence, and now it is "DOWN" to 500, soon to be 10.
OK, I'm baffled.
Could someone translate?
Must be an acid trip flash back
"Hey, I like folk music. But if you think it is relavant today, you need to rent "A Mighty Wind."
That was one of the funniest movies I have seen in ages. If you liked it, pick up "Best in Show" and "Waiting for Guffman" by the same troup. Subtle, satirical humor.
Baez, must be a French name-
surrender's the theme of Joan's game,
singing lyrics that make us all gag.
God bless America an Goddam this hag!!!
The Al Capp of Lil' Abner fame named her Phony Joanie.
Bob Dylan ran away from her as fast as he could.
OK, I'm baffled. Could someone translate?
Don't do drugs.
THE 60'S ARE OVER!!!! Move on with your useless life why don'tcha.
was it a HAM sandwich!
"Gimme that old time religion.
Gimme that old time religion.
Gimme that old time religion,
It's good enough for me!
"It was good for '60s hippies.
It was good for '60s hippies.
It was good for '60s hippies.
It's good enough for me!"
"Now come on boys, where's your spirit? I don't hear no singin'. When you were hippies, you sang like birds. Go on. How 'bout "a good ole moonbat work song?"
Joan played in front of 500 people. It was probably her largest concert since the 60's. Coming from ABC News I would imagine it was more like 300 people and they rounded it to the next 500.
Al Capp , the cartoonist, referred to her as Joanie Balooney.
Geez, I'd be willing to bet money that 99.9% of those anti-war banshees haven't shed a single tear for any of our fallen heroes. Heartstrings lingo is ineffective when it isn't heartfelt.
Yeah, the narcisistic old hippies of the '60's, such as Baez, haven't realized that most Americans today are not easily fooled as in the '60s and materialism is the mantra of the youth today, not rebellion.
Bod Dylan was smart to drop you Baez.
That was Jimi Hendrix.
Joan Baez is a hardcore neo-Stalinist pig and her singing/entertainment still sucks...
He calls himself "Patient Zero."
He is a member of the "Wag the Hag" crowd at Camp Cindy.
Please note his guitar adornments: 1001 = 0; My Other Guitar is a Syringe, and the duct tape.
ROFLMAO. My first BIG laugh of the day. Thanks!
Some good posts here... ;-D
From the 60's myself.
Never liked Joan Baez.
Supported the Vietnam War
Voted for Nixon in '72 age 19
Fought endless verbal battles with dirty commie-pinko liberals.
New and still remember all of the lyrics to Country Joe's Song.
of course the anti-war movement wasn't nearly as powerful in Louisiana.
Joan Baez: beautiful, beautiful voice expressing an ugly, ugly soul.
Nope, Mama Cass Elliot of the Mamas and the Papas
I know that, but I thought there was some ugly broad that died, and I thought it was Joan Baez. Oh well.
