German Chancellor Gerhard Schroederhas been nominated for the 2005 Nobel peace prize, the German press agency (DPA) reported on Tuesday.
Guenter Grass, Germany's 1999 Nobel literature laureate, told DPA Monday that he considered Schroeder a candidate for the peace award because of his strong opposition to the US-led war against Iraq.
Other names mentioned included former US Secretary of State Colin Powell, Indian musician Ravi Shankar, and former Czech president Vaclav Havel.

Powell's sucessful negotiation of peace after 25 year civil war in Sudan is a remarkable achievement that has gotten little attention.
Powell should get the Pinocchio nose award also.

Sadly, the prize is mostly political and, as such, virtually meaningless.
Alfed Nobel is spinning in his grave. This is not what he intended the prize to become.
I wonder if Herr Shroeder is being nominated for the purpose of helping him win an election he is almost certain to lose next month.
Naaaaah, I'm sure that the Nobel Prize would never be used as such a transparent political tool like that. /sarcasm
