The Pittsburgh Police Department displayed an excessive use of force at a demonstration yesterday outside a military recruitment station located near the University of Pittsburgh. Five were arrested, two were hospitalized and several others received injuries as a result of police unwarranted use of Tasers, pepper spray, retracting batons and K-9 units. Two others were issued citations when they complained about police misconduct.

Note that this is a press release by the organizers of the protests. The language should not be mistaken for unbiased or even media-related observations.

Yep.
I am very suspicious of these "facts":
"Police also used K-9 units to chase away protestors on the sidewalk. A 68-year old grandmother was bitten from behind by a police dog and then arrested and placed in an unventilated police van in the hot sun where she remained for 45 minutes before she, too, was finally taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for treatment. In addition, police pepper sprayed a four year-old girl, toppled a man with Multiple Sclerosis in his motorized wheel chair and clubbed a number of protestors with retracting metal batons."

What cowards! Have to cover their faces like the jackasses in the Mideast.

After the female protester was tazed, amazingly, she cooperated and left with police. It is incredible what a little corporal punishment can do to to these children.

Wearing all black with face masks is a tactic demonstrators use when launching a much less than peaceful demonstration. The idea is to avoid identification, blend into the crowd when running from police, etc.

I havent read anything in the papers about this yet but if the article is true to its word, this is a bunch of crap and the police should be reprimanded accordingly. While i dont agree at all with what the demonstrators were protesting, they do have a right to do so as long as it is in a manner that is peaceful and non-intrusive upon other people and their lives. Dogs biting a 68 year old woman and pepper spraying a 4 YEAR OLD is insane.

When it comes to dealing with hippie protests, I don't think the police should be allowed to use the batons, pepper spray, and tasers. Nope, shouldn't be allowed to even have them in the vicinity of these demonstrations. The police should instead be armed with rock salt loaded shotguns. Get those shotguns with the drum magazine, and make sure every single one of the hippies gets at least one load of rock salt.
If the rock salt doesn't clear the area, then they can turn the dogs loose, go to lunch, and come back to clean up the mess that's left when the dogs are finished.

Great images, should be used as a training aide for other departments across the country.
I still remember my recruiter. CIB, and four rows of fruit salad, none of which was for good conduct. These protestors would be calling the cops for protection if they had dared intruded on his AO.

I don't imagine the Police is going to taser someone for no good reason in public.
Some parts of the story is probably pure crap.

I would view those photos with a grain of salt.
I remember the protestors at the GOP Convention 2000 when I was working in Philadelphia...
The actual footage of a protest would show the police handling things as delicately as possible.
But, from that footage, the protesters would pick out certain frames that would make it appear as if the police were being too rough. Then they'd circulate those photos along with some fabrications/spin.
In reality, it was the protestors who were out of hand.
To: Hadean
Throw all their silly rear ends in jail and keep them there for the duration of the war on terror. Better yet, since they hate this country, put them on a C-130 and drop them over the country of their choice, North Korea or some other garden spot like that. Parachutes optional.
