Raiders storm petrol station

Aug 22, 2005
Pistol wielding raiders stormed into a Kidderminster petrol station and held a cashier at gunpoint.
Two men in balaclavas launched a night-time swoop on the Lynwood Service Station, also known as the Rosehill Garage, Rednal.
There were no customers in the Texaco garage at the time but one of the men put a pistol to the head of the cashier, a man in his 40s, and threatened to shoot him.
Initially the cashier, who has not been named, refused to hand any money over to the robbers and managed to sound the alarm.
The sound prompted the pair to run off empty handed and were believed to have headed towards Monument Lane.
The cashier escaped unharmed.
They are described as white, and are believed to be in their teens or early 20s. One had a purple carrier bag.
Detective Constable Terry Markovics, of Bromsgrove Criminal Investigation Department, said the terrifying attack happened on Thursday at around 8.30pm.
He said: "At this stage we don't know whether or not it was a real gun.The cashier was not injured but extremely shocked.
"We would like to appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious, before, during or after the incident, including anyone who saw these two males running away or possibly getting into a vehicle to get contact.
"We would also like to trace a man who was sitting on a bench nearby and was a possible witness."
DC Markovics said it was not yet known whether the raid was linked to others in north Worcestershire.
"We are currently checking closed circuit television footage in the hope that it may hold clues to the identities of these two men.
"We would also appeal for anyone who saw anyone in the area acting suspiciously leading up to the attempted robbery to come forward."
Anyone with information should call Bromsgrove Police on 08457 444888.
