Kerry: Terrorist Shiite Al-Sadr 'a Legitimate Voice' (Kerry and Cindy Sheehan)

Wednesday, April 7, 2004 10:41 a.m. EDT Kerry: Terrorist Shiite Al-Sadr 'a Legitimate Voice'

In an interview broadcast Wednesday morning, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry defended terrorist Shiite imam Muqtada al-Sadr as a "legitimate voice" in Iraq, despite that fact that he's led an uprising that has killed nearly 20 American GIs in the last two days.

Speaking of al-Sadr's newspaper, which was shut down by coalition forces last week after it urged violence against U.S. troops, Kerry complained to National Public Radio, "They shut a newspaper that belongs to a legitimate voice in Iraq."

In the next breath, however, the White House hopeful caught himself and quickly changed direction. "Well, let me ... change the term 'legitimate.' It belongs to a voice — because he has clearly taken on a far more radical tone in recent days and aligned himself with both Hamas and Hezbollah, which is a sort of terrorist alignment."

But Kerry again seemed to voice sympathy for the Shiite terrorist when asked whether he supported al-Sadr's arrest. "Not if it’s an isolated act without the other kinds of steps necessary to change the dynamics on the ground in Iraq," Kerry told NPR, in quotes first reported by the New York Sun.

"If all we do is make war against the Iraqi people and continue an American occupation, fundamentally, without a clarity as to who and how sovereignty is being turned over, we have a very serious problem for the long run here," Kerry added. "And I think this administration is just walking dead center down into that trap."

On March 28, the U.S.-led coalition authorities closed al-Sadr's newspaper, al-Hawza, for 60 days, the Sun reported. L. Paul Bremer, the chief U.S. administrator in Iraq, charged that the newspaper had published false stories blaming the coalition forces for local acts of terrorism.

Three days after Casey Sheehan died, John Kerry was standing behind the terrorist Al Sadr. Many of us mothers of military personnel, in Vacaville, CA., the home of Cindy Sheehan, called his office to blast him for his support of the terrorist. Sheehan was supporting the President at that time and was thrilled at having the opportunity to meet him.

They encouraged us to support Kerry and we ignored them, choosing to stand behind the President as he had the total support and confidence of our children.

Within months, his campaign came to Vacaville to visit Cindy Sheehan. She knew of his support of Al Sadr. The family became mezmorized with Kerry and his campaign embraced her, tying her into other organizations to support his campaign. They paid her expenses to travel across the United States supporting him.

When asked why she would support the man who supported the terrorists who were killing soldiers and had killed her son, there was no response. She seemed conflicted.

Behind all of this, is John Kerry and his group of radicals, once more, trying to demoralize our troops and jeopardizing our children.

wow..excellent point...great research on your part. thanks..

you know what bugs me MOST about cindy sheehan? stealing her son's valor, as if because he was brave, she has a right to own him, his memory and the work he did.

i heard her say she would have "taken him to canada" if she had known this would happen, as if he were some stupid puppet or four year old she could control and manipulate.

Reread those Kerry quotes and tell me if you've ever heard more meanless blather. Kerry is an embarassment to weasels everywhere.

She dishonors herself. Never her sons sacrifice. He is a hero for the ages now. She can never change that. We wont let her.

Casey came home on leave and recruited quite a few in Vacaville, into the military. He also reenlisted.

There is a part of Fort Hood, which the locals refer to as "little Vacaville." Many, many young people who all know each other from high school and enlisted after 9/11.

They don't share Cindy Sheehan's views and feel she dishonored Casey.

At least the timeline is set. We just don't understand her rationale in Vacaville. Especially when there are so many in the Army and the Marines whose lives she is jeopardizing.

What is so very strange is there were letters to the editor of the Vacaville newspaper and the absolute anger of the people toward John Kerry for supporting a terrorist, yet Cindy would stand behind him?

In her neighborhood, people fly flags, they have yellow magnetic ribbons on their vehicles and they have painted fences that look like flags.

So many of our safety personnel (police, fire, corrections) are reserve officers that served in Iraq that the Sheriff was complaining he didn't have a work force.

We are the home to Travis Air Force Base and the town is very, very patriotic and supportive of the troops.

Casey's sister, Carly, worked at a place where the troops congregated when they came home on leave. Most ignored her after she became involved with Kerry and started "trashing the President."

Early on, she was very supportive of him, as was her mother, that is, until the Kerry campaign visited and tied her into the other 401(c) organizations that were supporting his campaign.

It was bizarre at best.

it's funny that Kerry supports a murdering, butchering, boy buggering rapist....

I REALLY wish we had popped Mookie, and I really wish his own men would have been able to finish the job in Najaf last year (we didn't wound him, he was fragged).

Add a Dean and Kennedy with Kerry and Schummer. We will have a Barber Shop Quartet to sing at Cindy's Peace March.
They need Hanoi Jane to introduce them!
