This is a man who, undeniably, was called from a 1993 World Trade Center bombing safehouse, got a 9/11 hijacker through Malaysian customs, apparently attended a foundational 9/11 gathering, disappeared from sight (as did the hijackers and their co-conspirators) right after the Malaysia meeting, and turns up in Qatar a few days after 9/11 with contact information for the brother Khalid Sheik Mohammed (the 9/11 mastermind) and other terrorists. What is the good reason not to be curious about this apparent co-conspirator (whom the CIA once thought important enough to travel to Jordan to interview)?
Why didn't the 9/11 Commission bore into this guy regardless of whether he had Iraqi connections? It's one thing to say you don't think there's a connection. It's quite another thing to avert your eyes from anything that might suggest one.

The inept (or worse) treatment of this guy indicates just how badly flawed the 9/11 Commission report is..... if they couldn't even trouble themselves to drill into the real nature and activities of an Iraqi with all these ties to the Malaysia meeting, 9/11 terrorists, high-level Al Qaeda contacts, etc. then it is impossible to believe anything they say about anything. Of course they didn't bother to get things right on Atta, Saddam, etc. They didn't WANT to have a truly thorough and accurate report, else they could never have passed so superficially over all these key issues and people.

fun to watch is it not. everyday more comes out. bush withstood all of it. soon even the msm will not be able to hide. as far as important information is concerned , it will now come from places like this. let them have the cult of personality the rest of us will be amused by it but also have information.

" The whole report is a sham meant to calm the sheeple into a quiet stupor."
Darn and I was ready to go nighty night. Maybe the NEXT commission will expose so damn much stuff that people will start to question just how well the Teflon team did during the 90's. Let the frigen heads start to roll. The L/MSM will only be able to hold off so long as the boilers are up to pressure then the wheels are going to have to roll.
Another 911 omit.

Another Stranger To The 9/11 Narrative Surfaces
The German news magazine Der Spiegel profiles yet another terrorist linked to the 9/11 attack plot and the Hamburg cell whence it sprang. Luai Sakra surfaced in Turkey, and although he has some apparent stability issues, DS reports that the Syrian has worked as an informant for Western intelligence agencies. Either that, or Sakra knows how to spin fantasies that might cost him his life (h/t: CQ reader Rob P-M):
Two weeks ago, Turkish police arrested an Islamist with ties to many upper tier al-Qaida members. The man not only tried to get asylum in Germany, but claims to have known about the London bombings beforehand and to have helped the 9/11 pilots. ...
Turkish anti-terror officials held the suspected al-Qaida member for four days. Just after his arrest two weeks ago, Sakra admitted to planning strikes against Israeli cruise ships; he hoarded 750 kilograms of explosives for the purpose. When some of those explosives went up in flames, in his Antalya apartment, he fled.
What Sakra told officials during his interrogation suggests a deep jihadist career. The Syrian, who knows weapons as well as he knows his whiskey and wine, has obviously played a far more important role in the terrorist underground than officials first suspected. According to his own testimony, he knew about the London bombings before they happened, and supported the pilots on 9/11.
"I was one of the people who knew the 9/11 perpetrators," Sakra reportedly said in passing during the interrogation, "and I knew the plans and times beforehand." He claims to have provided the pilots with passports and money.
Sakra lived in the German town of Schramberg from September 2000 to July 2001, during the period when the Hamburg cell actively supported Mohammed Atta and the primary leaders of the attack plot. By July 2001, when he left, most of the heavy lifting had been done by those abroad, and the rest of the attack preparation took place in the United States. Sakra would have moved on to a new assignment at that time.
However, according to Sakra, he had plenty of connections to other agencies other than al-Qaeda. He claims to have tipped off the Syrians about the 9/11 attacks, who waited until afterwards to notify the Americans of the tip. The tip, according to DS, accurately predicted that the AQ operation would use commercial aircraft as missiles against buildings in the US. The Turkish media also claim that the CIA made contact with Sakra twice in 2000 but were unable to turn him despite offering Sakra large sums of money. They turned to the Turkish intelligence group MIT, who could not track him down until August 2001, four weeks before the 9/11 attacks -- but released him, apparently without coordinating with the CIA.
Sakra seems like a strange Islamist fanatic. The Turks found plenty of pharmaceuticals on him during his latest arrest, and his mood swings suggest that he may be bipolar. He drinks alcohol, doesn't pray much, and his career as described by DS looks more like a free agent than true believer. Sakra claims to not only have trained with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Afghanistan but to have fought in Fallujah for his network.
The Turks have him in custody due to the kidnap and murder of a Turkish truck driver in Iraq, and his description of the event complements the video record almost perfectly. However, they consider him a reliable witness as his story coordinates well with estblished facts about al-Qaeda and their operations. The DS report clearly takes Sakra seriously.
The Germans will want to thoroughly investigate Sakra's stay in Germany very carefully, and the CIA should join them. He may prove worthless in the long run, but he might have interesting information about the kinds of connections the AQ plotters had with other espionage agents in Germany during that same period, especially the two Iraqis arrested in February 2001. It should surprise no one that Sakra's name doesn't appear at all in the 9/11 Commission report, nor any hint that Syrian intelligence informed the US about the attacks after they occurred. That may mean that Sakra has no credibility; however, if he checks out, it may be yet another dot that the Commission either ignored or missed while making the connections that pleased them.
Addendum: I would agree that a healthy dose of skepticism should accompany this development. He sounds like a fantasist, an dthe pharmaceuticals don't add to his credibility. It sounds like the Turks take him seriously for reasons of their own, though, and if he was mixing up some explosives in Antalya, he's at least dangerous ... to himself.
Bttt..
like the man said----payback is a bizitch
The "9-11 Commission" had two purposes:
1. Protect Bill Clinton and the Clinton Administration.
2. Find a way to blame President Bush for the 9-11 attacks.
Why President Bush and the Congressional Republicans went along with it is beyond my powers of comprehension.
Thanks for the ping. All this reminiscin' about guys named AliArqazaliakbarzarqanalsadr (choose your favourite permutation) has my head spinning.
Next, we'll hear about a wee little "snafu" that happened on the way to a terrorist nuclear attack.
Well. Andrew McCarthy is sure opening up some rather very interesting possiblities. Summarizing as you are already aware, read the full article folks. An Iraqi identity either a colonel in the Fadayeen (Intel Div.) or a second known Iraqi Operative with all kinds of ties to al Quaeda, could easily by what he outlines/times/date/places, prove with no doubt that Iraq had a direct link to the 9/11 attacks. And that the 9/11 Commission was truely disengenious in how they let the matter go by the wayside.
They made no attempt to question what the CIA provided on the two individuals (CIA was not presenting a clear case for an al Queda/Iraq connection), but what the article brings out, makes it sound like the Commission should have said hold on, something is not right here, why couldn't the you
guys connect the dots on between these two identities because either or both could easily be proven to place Saddam directly in the 9/11 plot as preplanned in Kuala Lumpur. They even knew that the one identity who supposedly was working at Kuala Lumpur Int airport for a very short period of time even turned out to be controled from Baghdad, and that after the Kuala Lumpur 9/11 Plotting commitee ended this guy scooted into thin air only later to be found and caught in Qatar a week later! The CIA did not provide a adequate connect the dots so the Commission simply overlooked the whole matter since they had no intentions of investigating data that lead to making a direct connection between Saddam and 9/11.
Do read the article.
Surely this stuff is going to be followed up on as steam gathers.
"So perhaps in order to protect "intel" President Bush and the Republicans took the lesser of two evils. A soviet style commission report, versus putting into the hands of liberals military intel. There seems to be no doubt that the liberals would go public on anything they could to win an election and whitewash the Clintons."
Interesting analysis. You may not be for off the mark. Surely we continue to ask ourselves why the demos where allowed to control the 9/11 Commission in such an roughshod way. There simply could have been a deal. And GWB knew people like Rummy, Rice, etc., would not buckle but come away eventually in a sort of neutral position while they continued to prosecute the war then follow up SASO operations.

Then you haven't read "Compromised" by Terry Reed and John Cummings ISBN 1-883955-02-5

Actually I have read "Compromised".
Here's the 9/11 Commission Report Index of People, Places and Organizations
"As we review the misdeeds of the 9/11 O-mission, keep in mind the total lack of curiosity, the complete absence of investigatory efforts toward this "Ahmad Hikmat Shakir Azzawi"...... if the 9/11 O-missioners couldn't be bothered to get things straight on this guy, who had numerous ties to key Al Qaeda terrorists including 9/11 hijackers, how can anyone believe they got anything right?"
Is this the same guy also known as Sheikh Saiid? Sheikh Saiid was Daniel Pearl's executioner and bin Laden's banker, yet little mention of him in the report.
If anyone might be prepared to betray bin Laden for their own benefit then suggestions are that Saiid also known as Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawasawi could do it.

From Pakistan, the operatives transited through the UAE en route to the United States. In the Emirates they were assisted primarily by al Qaeda operatives Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Mustafa al Hawsawi. Ali apparently assisted nine future hijackers between April and June 2001 as they came through Dubai. He helped them with plane tickets, traveler's checks, and hotel reservations; he also taught them about everyday aspects of life in the West, such as purchasing clothes and ordering food. Dubai, a modern city with easy access to a major airport, travel agencies, hotels, and Western commercial establishments, was an ideal transit point.111
Ali reportedly assumed the operatives he was helping were involved in a big operation in the United States, he did not know the details.112 When he asked KSM to send him an assistant, KSM dispatched Hawsawi, who had worked on al Qaeda's media committee in Kandahar. Hawsawi helped send the last four operatives (other than Mihdhar) to the United States from the UAE. Hawsawi would consult with Atta about the hijackers' travel schedules to the United States and later check with Atta to confirm that each had arrived. Hawsawi told the muscle hijackers that they would be met by Atta at the airport. Hawsawi also facilitated some of the operation's financing.113

Omer Sheikh dangerous and charismatic: prison officials
Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: Accoring to prison officals, Ahmed Omer Saeed Sheikh is dangerous and charismatic. The British-born Islamist murderer of the American journalist Daniel Pearl has managed to convert the first four constables that were stationed outside his cell. This has moved prison authorities to rotate the guards staioned outside his cell almost every day. He is capable of converting the entire jail staff, said one official.
The convict paid tribute to Osama Bin Laden and condemned his victim as an informer/spy of America in an interview conducted by smuggling notes in and out of his cell, says a Telegraph report.
Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh said that he had met Bin Laden twice in Afghanistan and admitted to The Sunday Telegraph that he had been involved in the kidnap of Mr Pearl, a Wall Street Journal reporter who was beheaded on video in 2002 after being lured to a meeting in Karachi.
Sheikh rejected the pillars of Western civilisation, pledged allegiance to the one-eyed fugitive Taliban leader Mulla Omar and declared that jihad would never cease, even if Bin Laden and Omar were killed. Islamic resurgence will continue even if all the better-known leaders are martyred or captured, he said. His uncompromising pronouncements came as Mr Pearls parents, Judea and Ruth, noted with sadness and disappointment the failure of Pakistan to carry out Sheikhs death sentence, imposed three years ago after he was tried for their sons kidnap, and suggested that he could be implicated in planning bombings in London and elsewhere.
Using the protection of his jail cell, [Sheikh] reportedly keeps in touch with his friends and followers in Pakistan and Britain, and advises them on future courses of action, they wrote in the Journal.
A source close to those holding Sheikh, who is in an isolation cell in Hyderabad prison, said that he had limited means of communication with the outside world and was allowed visits only from his wife and father.
In the interview, the first he has given, he wrote out replies to questions submitted covertly while he was in Adiala jail, where he was detained for several months, he indicated that he believed he would never be executed and would one day play a role in an Islamist state in Pakistan or elsewhere.
Im trying to prepare myself to be of real service to the Ummah [Muslim nation] if I get another chance. Sheikh, who was educated in England until he was 14 and returned to study at the London School of Economics three years later, said that the United Nations actions in Bosnia propelled him from being a moderate Muslim to a radical Islamist.
It was the unjust armed embargo perpetuated by the European members of the United Nations on Bosnias Muslims while they were being slaughtered in the most horrific way by Serbian forces that made me realise that the pillars of Western civilisation are not for us Muslims.
I was left with a great emptiness. The ensuing search for new pillars, new directions, new meaningfulness in life, took me to Bosnia, then Pakistan, then Afghanistan and a number of organisations, and finally I found the answer. His motto in jail was: Talk less, eat less, sleep less.

Why would the 9/11 Commission use an alias in their report to describe the activities of Osama bin Laden's banker instead of the man's real name,Ahmed Omer Saeed Sheikh?
Ahmed Omer Saeed Sheikh,a.k.a. Mustafa al Hawsawi, was Daniel Pearl's executioner.
Why have we not extradited the 9/11 banker?
"..... how else would they get "intel" if Rummy shuffled their deck."
Thanks for your further insite. Much of what many of us share seem to ring bells once read if not allready entrenched in the mind. To many things fall into perfect place, once sorted out.
Betweeen what all have linked and post these past 10 days or so on DIA/AD and 9/11 Failures to do balance investigation, I guess I shall stay busy for a some time, just pulling up all the book marks, reviewing FR comments and all the linked URL's to articles etc.. Don't feel obligated to return replie this far into the thread. I am sure we shall see many new posts as things start to gel.
It's the political class orchestrating theater to fool the people. Hopefully there are enough of us to realize that these clowns should be excised from public life, and condemned for the maleficence they've engaged in their entire careers.
Why would the Republicans on the Commission want to smear Bush, or am I reading this all wrong?
Why do these muslims always have two names they go by?

Don't know - three things that concern me enormously are that in places like Pakistan, Yemen, etc. (1) there is so much sympathy or outright alliance from a lot of the security and intel forces that there will likely be more 'escapes' as soon as they think we're not paying attention; (2) likewise, it's probably easy for these scumbags to continue communicating with their comrades and followers, both inside and outside; (3) even if there's no 'escape' a lot of them will probably only serve a few years and then be back in circulation. If we can't have the death penalty for every terrorist who is caught, at the very least we ought to insist upon life imprisonment in isolation.... instead, as we are seeing in Indonesia, a prison sentence for mass murderers just turns into a brief interlude among friends before resuming previous activities.
They're duplicitous?
They were caught up in their own visions of importance, but frankly, I think they were bamboozled at the outset, and then too fearful of diminishing their notion of importance to ruffle feathers when that's what needed to be done.
The dims, on the other hand, had no qualms about going after Rice and the others very hard, while Richard Clarke was out there pushing his book.
Obviously there is a great evil afoot here.
Is there a man in DC who will do the right thing ... that believes that evil must be confronted and fought? Even at the cost of great pain and self sacrifice;
Is there a man in DC smart enough to even see what is before his face?
Is he man enough to tell his political advisors to take a long walk off a short pier?
I can give you a couple of reasons.
1 The commision was nothing but crat party hacks on the demo side whose only goal was to keep the crat party from taking the hit.
2 On the pubby side there were nothing but rinos, who stand for nothing and fall for everything, and their goal was to get along.
BUMP!
