LIVE Report From Crawford (3,000 folks now and STILL COMING!)
Basil in Crawford | 8-27-05 | TxBubba

Posted on 08/27/2005 10:02:40 AM PDT by TXBubba

Just talked to Basil on site in Crawford, Texas. Currently there are about 100 folks there helping to set up. They have not received word about the caravan arrival in Waco yet. JimRob is riding with the caravan. She thinks it might get to Crawford around 1:00 p.m.

Basil says the stage is set up, the sound system is excellent and they have hung the most beautiful banners overnighted by W04Man on the stage. A big thanks for the banners, they are much appreciated!

Someone arrived early and hung yellow ribbons everywhere.

They have an American flag that is about 50 feet by 40 feet. Children of military personnel serving in the Middle East have written notes to their parents on the stripes of this flag. A very touching thing to behold.

The HOT Chapter booth is being unloaded right now. The will sell buttons made by Angelwood to help off set costs.

Someone rented the Community Center for our use so there is access to AC. However, they also have 10 tents set up. And there is a Moonwalk for the kiddos.

To top everything else there is BBQ on the grill! Basil is the official taster and says it is great!

That is all the news I have at the moment. It is hard to get a cell phone connection to Crawford but when I hear more I will try to update everyone.

CNN just had really good coverage!

Guy at the rally asked Cindy how many American troops will die because she's giving hope to the terrorists! WooHoo! CNN is shaming FOX!

Thanks for your support. I called the 888 Fox number hours ago & said as much. The "Ditch Witch" is the Jane Fonda of this war. She is so selfish to dishonor her son & family this way.

Y'all are gonna love this AP 'report':

Not far from Bush's ranch, police kept dozens of his supporters and about the same number of anti-war protesters on separate sides of a narrow country road, while the two sides jeered at each other and waved flags and signs.

(from this thread, just posted

Did anyone catch the snippet on CNN, don't you just love looking at a bunch of fat ugly women whining. My husband says he can go to Walmart and do that. That Cindy crowd could really use the spa treatment.

I actually just sent CNN my first positive email! LOL; I thought their report was much better than the little one we got earlier from FNC.

WOAI (San Antonio -- the Rush and Hannity station) got rid of ABC news and subsituted Fox instead. I was delighted

Wonder if KLUP (am 930) had anything to do with that? They have a straight conservative line-up everyday if you missed it. I switch back and forth now between the 2 stations for my favorites.

Weekend TV on cable is for the birds.

We're watching Animal Planet. I'm reading FR. ;)

If I want news, I never turn on TV or pick up a paper.

the two sides traded schoolyard taunts, questioning each other's virility, musical skills, wardrobes and hygiene habits,

Oh, my, I wish I could be there! Wardrobes? Hygiene habits? LOL!

I can't find the article with the link provided. Can anyone help?

Cindy Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in Iraq last year and has camped outside Bush's ranch seeking a second meeting with him to press for the withdrawal of troops, said her efforts would ultimately lead to the end of the war in Iraq.

"I know that the Camp Casey movement is going to end the war in Iraq," she said after folk singer Joan Baez led supporters in singing "Amazing Grace." Rally organizers estimated the crowd in the sweltering heat was more than 2,000, although it appeared smaller.

Across town in Crawford, other parents of soldiers who are serving or have died in Iraq countered Sheehan with their own raucous rally that started with a prayer.

Organizer Howard Kaloogian accused Sheehan of "giving hope and encouragement to our enemies."

The crowd, which organizers said topped 3,000 but appeared closer to 1,500, chanted "Cindy, Go Home" and compared her to Jane Fonda, whose visit to a North Vietnamese gun site in 1972 earned her the nickname "Hanoi Jane."

"Cindy=Hanoi Jane," read one of the signs at the rally.

In one heated moment, members of the pro-Bush crowd turned on what they mistakenly thought were a group of anti-war protesters, cursing them, threatening them and tearing down their signs. A police officer rushed the group to safety.
