Two Bellingham men believed to be registered sex offenders were shot to death early Saturday morning and authorities are looking for a suspect who posed as an FBI agent to get into their house, Bellingham police said. The case is being handled as a double homicide, said Bellingham Police Lt. Craige Ambrose. Police cordoned off two houses Saturday, at 2825 and 2827 Northwest Ave.
The victims identities are being withheld until police can notify their next of kin.
Police said the suspect posed as an FBI agent to gain entry to one of the houses near the corner of Northwest and West Illinois Street. He is described as a white male in his late 40s, about 5-feet-9 to 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds. He was last seen Friday night at the residence by neighbors and a resident of the home.
The roommate found the two dead men around 3 a.m. Saturday. The three roommates and the suspect were last together around 9 p.m. Friday at the house, according to the Bellingham police.
The suspect arrived at the house Friday night wearing a black baseball cap with an FBI insignia on the front and a blue jump suit with a white stripe down the legs, the roommate told police.
The suspect is not an FBI agent, Ambrose said.
The man presented himself to the three roommates as a member of the FBI and said he wanted to talk to them about their Level III sex offender status, according to police.
The fake FBI agent told the roommates that one of them was on a hit list on an Internet site, according to the police. The roommate who reported the deaths left while the FBI imposter was still there, Ambrose said.
Ambrose would not confirm which roommates, if any, are registered sex offenders. But Sheryl Craig, a block watch captain, said neighbors previously received sex offender notices about all three residents from law enforcement.
The Bellingham Police Web site lists one sex offender living at 2825 Northwest Ave. and the Whatcom County Sheriffs Web site lists two other sex offenders as living in the 2800 block of Northwest. The Whatcom County Assessors Web site shows one of the sex offenders listed with Whatcom County Sheriffs Office as the owner of 2825 Northwest Ave.
Neighbors said the suspect stayed at the house for approximately two hours, according to the police.
Craig said she never noticed problems from any of the three sex offenders.
They really kept to themselves, she said. I only saw them on their daily walks.
We (neighbors) were told to let them be, but keep an eye on them, she said.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Bellingham Police Department at 676-6920 or 911.
Two down.
I give two middle fingers to the lawyers who defended them.
Is this not the logical outcome of letting sex offenders off with light sentences and probation? If the law cannot or will not take care of the problem, the people eventually will....
I thought it was Bellingham MA for a moment, but it's really in WA.
Maybe, but there is no evidence that the hero used the internet to operate.
I'd like to buy that man a beer.
Level 3 offender status is as bad as you can get. Good riddance.
did you see the post where the victims ages were between 8-14?
I don't wanna know!
I guess it would be too much to expect "law enforcement" records to show the same information. Maybe the registration process needs some tweaking.
This is not my research but these are likely the three that lived at the house:

I'd like to buy him a case of beer.
I bet that if they catch the killer, he won't get off with just having to 'register'.

"They really kept to themselves, she said. "I only saw them on their daily walks (to scope out the nearest playground.)"
Can't say I'll shed a tear over this...
"I give two middle fingers to the lawyers who defended them"
I prefer the option that lawyers should be awarded the same fate as either:
1 - the criminals
2 - the victims
whichever is worse!
I DO care!!!
Honest!
Look...see how much I care.
Here, let me show you again.
Here's the sketch of the suspect. I wonder if the shooter is a victim of these two guys. Perhaps a relative of a victim?
At least we now know what the next Law & Order episode will be about.
These three scum were all Level 3 (High-Risk to Re-Offend). Now 2 of them are at kind of a low risk to re-offend. The shooter has improved society. I hope they assign this investigation to the Aruban police.
Lets' hope he continues his meetings with offenders without interference from the boys in blue."
Yes. Kind of a "come to Jesus" meeting. To be judged anyway.
He's just doing what the system needed to do a LOOOONG time ago.
Wait, sorry, I forgot, Hollywood glorifies the child molesters, not the other way around.
That said, I believe in the rule of law - no taking it into your own hands ... but it's time to change that law. Mandatory death sentence for the rape of a child is a good start.
My question is:
Why are these guys out of prison within 4 years or less of guilty plea on crimes such as these? This is absolutely abhorrent. If society doesn't remove those who harm innocent children, a death penalty should be provided. I guess it was in this instance.
The rule of law has not been working so well in this area.
I'm distressed at the sloppy record keeping: one agency lists one sex offender living there, another lists two, but there were actually three. How can the public be protected if the agency records are incomplete or incorrect?
If the killer was administering justice, then good for him! Justice will come either through a proper form or in a formless fashion.
I'd imagine they'll have updates as they become available.
-We (neighbors) were told to let them be, but keep an eye on them, she said.-
BECAUSE THEY ARE DANGEROUS. DUH! Keep them off our streets!
I see that accepting Charles Bronson's death as a reality was erroneous. Obviously, he went under cover and continues the good work of many of his movie rolls--- eliminating those evil people the justice system allows to go on living and doing their evil deeds.
Go Bronson!

Note to self...
1. get 1/3 of my deposit back
2. Return jump suit
3. pick up 1 block of velveta
No, it's been working exactly like the framers of the sex crimes laws wanted it to work. They wanted "therapy" for criminals and kid gloves (no pun intended) to handle them.
We need to change the law from the liberal "we feel their pain -- poor misunderstood sex offenders" -- to a conservative stance. Our sympathy needs to go to the poor raped and abused children of horrible sexual predators. Then make laws that match the change. No more light sentences, counselors, and "registration."
Conservative laws protect the powerless and innocent, not the powerful and evil. Mandatory death penalty for child rapists would be a good start.
The problem isn't "rule of law", it's who's been making the laws.
In my area...some sex offenders are required to register with the police dept, and some are required to register with the sheriff's office. Don't know if that may be an explanation for this.
"Another thing, What in the hell are 3 sex offenders doing living together?"
What is... Enjoying a basic daily circle-jerk, Alex??
i hate to play devils' advocate, but as a republican, living in a country ruled by law,i don't belive those men should have been murdered.even churchill would not let his troops assassinate hitler.it sets a bad precedent.jail,sure.murder?no.i don't believe in the death penalty for the same reason i don't belive in abortion.si vis pacem, para bellum
If the rape of a child carried a mandatory death penalty, we wouldn't have to worry about sloppy record keeping.
I live in the area where the monster raped a nine year old a few months back, and buried her alive. I have no sympathy for these monsters.
We're not an underpopulated country. We don't need to keep these monsters among us...
We don't want citizens having to take the law in their own hands either. We need to change the law - mandatory death penalty for the rape of a child. Second offense child molestation, the same. When the law is just, people will respect it.
Extra-judicial murder is never justified. Vigilantism can not be tolerated.
I find it curious that three released sex offenders should be living in the same house, and it occurs to me to wonder whether they may have been doing so at government expense. Was this a sex offender "halfway house," like the halfway houses for released drug addicts and other criminals?
Back in the 60s and 70s there was a lot of flak on this issue--halfway houses, drug dispensaries, and welfare warehouses put into good neighborhoods by social engineers in government, with considerable neighborhood resentment. Since then we've gotten used to this government technique, but it's still not popular for people who want a safe neighborhood for their children.
This is purely speculative, but it seems like the sort of thing that government around Seattle would be likely to do.
They're celebrating diversity.
The area that parolees are released to in my town are known as "felony flats".
Seems like a no-brainer to me. They can probably only get minimum wage jobs where the boss doesn't ask many questions. That necessitates room-mates. If roomies ever find out what he was in to big house for, they'll have to sleep with one eye open till they can find another place to live. So they room with other child molesters to avoid nasty surprises.
