Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

New thread
First?
BTTT!
Were not.
here
Second?
LOL!
What, you want a toaster? LOL
Thanks for doing such a wonderful job with the live threads, NN!
Shep sounds worried, albeit even scared for himself.

A sentimental memory from our last (ever?) visit to NO, Christmas 2005.
Thank you for your dedication keeping these threads. You're providing an invaluable service and I appreciate it and know that others do as well.
Lucky number 13?

It took him long enough...
Storm surge arriving in Mobile Bay area.
I have been in tears ever since I saw her.
Did you see the face of the fox reporter at the super dome looking at the people.
He knows.
Thanks for the ping I was in the worm hole right behind you....:-)

I don't know how I am going to sleep tonight. I want to stay awake for this.

Placeholder.
Glad to assist.
People have been asking about the Dome weathering this storm all day and not one official has been able to answer that question.
Also, did anyone listen to the professor from one of the universities who said when the storm surge comes through, it will come through a chemical plant area probably spilling the chemicals in the water, coffins will float, sewers will backup and disease will break out after this is done in the next few days.
Nagin in studio being interviewed on WWL-TV
Shep said he went somewhere and said a prayer.
"First time the "nosebleed seats' are gonna be the most desirable..."
Not if the roof blows off, LOL.
I heard the reporter at the Dome say 102 bathrooms....72,000 people....
It's going to be a long night for so many
I know, the guy at the Superdome sounds positively distressed...and upset...
There is no official answer to whether the SuperDome can weather this storm. It was built to withstand hurricanes, never tested like this.
And I think you're right about the reporter...
Yeah, until the ceiling flies away. Pray hard...that could be a lot of DEAD people...
There is NO WAY that this will miss NO, and it is even less likely that it will hit Houston.
The movement west they are talking about is only miles worth. The only thing that will save NO now is divine intervention.
Fox News will be on all night - they said a few moments ago - I'm sure the other cable stations will too
Who has the streaming video links?
How many rolls of paper?
The NO Homeland Security Director was saying that they would not put more than 20-30,000 into the Superdome. They would open other shelters. They are doing full searches for weapons, drugs, and other contraband. His concern is not for comfort, but for trying to keep people alive through Tuesday morning.
-- WWL interview awhile back.
I don't think that place is going to stand. Yikes!
I wonder if the President is doing anything in an attempt to blunt the impact that oil prices will take due to this. And no, I frankly have no idea what he could do except to send a message to the markets to be kind during our disaster and that the US Government will do everything possible to restore/rebuild/yada yada yada.
that's gonna make me cry
They have started opening up some of the schools for shelter.
We've been wondering that since yesterday...also why they didn't shut things down & start getting those tourists out of there by lunchtime yesterday.
He said a lot of the freelance photographers they usually use for events like this have been told to get out and are heeding the warning. I think brought reality to him.
I have a conference in the Hyatt Regency by the Dome in early December.... not looking good right now.
Curfew in City of New Orleans begins at 6P, per Nagin on WWL.
Don't forget a few thousand drowned pets and snakes.
not enough is my guess. Wonder if the ladies room line will be longer...
