Rockin and a rollin in BR. We have power outages, trees and power lines down, strong wind gusts and lots of rain. Radio callers report huge trees in the middle of some roads, with power lines in the road as well. My lights are flickering, this may be my last post.

"There must be a better plan to evacuate NO, because their current plan assumes they will have 72 hours before a storm."

That's what I posted if you had read it with comprehension.

After this is all over the LA state authorities will have PROOF of the pros and cons regarding evacuation procedures.

My definition of the "root problem" is being 6+ feet below sea level...

good question. if NO does not flood, that will show that the levees are better then the models predicted they were, if they hold up with a cat 4 moving just east of NO. remember the rantings of Bastardi yesterday about how this scenario would play out to force the lake into NO.

I think we have been hyped.

Where is this 160 mph everyone is talking about?

Weather prediction isn't perfect. FWIW, if the storm doesn't live up to its billing, I'd see that as cause for celebration, not a reason to kvetch.

Those three were not 'scared to death' they reported died on a bus that was moving folks from a nursing home. COD seems to be dehydration. Let's not ge carried away.

Shep's either insane or Katrina is the "swing flu" dud of 2005.

They'd have to be humongous to run the AC system for the Dome.

A caller to Art Bells (y2k monger) radio show stated he had worked putting carpet in the super dome. Said that the dome generates its own weather systems. Now that air conditioning is off, they could get rain and lighting inside the astro dome.

lol. I've heard 3 different POINTS of contact of Katrina. I just heard the storm (east? I'm confused now) of Grand Isle... and that the storm looked "headed" FOR New Orleans.

But, something I've been thinking since last night... Does anyone know if there is any country in the world which has "evacuation and/or shelter" plans (and sites) like the US does?

Just heard 4 shelters in NC -- is also open to those LEAVING the storm hit areas.

Re: "I ve been watching the weather buoy info and it is still showing 50 mph winds and 40 ' waves - that happens every year!

"I think we have been hyped.

"Where is this 160 mph everyone is talking about?"

This is still a dangerous storm at 140, 130, 120, 110 or 100 MPH winds and rain... New Orleans is not out of danger by a long shot!

Neither are the areas to the east in Mississippi and Alabama...
