Handguns A longtime law that allows Texans to carry handguns while traveling, even without a concealed handgun license, is clarified. The new law says a person is "presumed to be traveling" if he or she is in a private vehicle, is not engaged in criminal activity, is not prohibited by any other law from possessing a firearm and is not a member of a criminal street gang.

I wonder how long it will take for some agressive law enforcement people to try to classify speeding, broken tail light, etc. as engaging in criminal activity.
Ouch, I didn't think of that.
Well all bets are off now anyway. Our DA, Harris County, is now on a radio talk show saying that he is advising all law enforcement to arrest anyone carrying a gun in their car. He says that he will prosecute because "travelling" isn't defined. He has been useless on many other issues so maybe he will be found wrong on this.
Link doesn't work for me. Is anyone else having trouble with it?
Contrast that with my state laws (Illinois) A person must register to even own a gun and then you are not allowed to carry it at all.
I work in Illinois (Chicago) but I will not move here because of their liberal stance.
Ditto.
Section 46.15, Penal Code, is amended by adding Subsection (i) to read as follows:(i) For purposes of Subsection (b)(3), a person is presumed to be traveling if the person is:(1) in a private motor vehicle;(2) not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic;(3) not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm;(4) not a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01; and(5) not carrying a handgun in plain view.
That should cover the traffic offense concerns. I still don't know what our empty headed DA is thinking. Sounds pretty plain to me.
We can't let people like that stay in office.
Correct, why else would they stop you, and find a weapon, unless you broke a law in the first place?
Yes, we should race to make as many felons as possible. Look! Seven hundred new laws, each with an escalating penalty resulting in felon status, thereby disbarring us of our Rights, especially our Second Amendment Right.
Sounds bass ackwards to maximize freedom for good citizens.
I think your link is just for the ads.

More better?
Well. I guess we won't be wearin' the old holstered six shooter while cruisin' on the Harleys.
Those in the political seats of power have only one goal, retain power. To do that, they need to come up with justification for their existance... ie; make new laws. Our legal system has gone from being about Justice to being about how to keep the government beast alive and feeding.
Time to kill it before ALL of us become criminals of one stripe or another.
