Cindy Sheehan’s lost intentions (sister and father speak of Casey's service to God and country)
Bowling Green News, OH ^ | August 29, 2005 | Danielle Winters dwinter@bgsu.edu

Posted on 08/29/2005 6:05:05 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Army Specialist Casey Sheehan joined the Army in 2000 at the age of 20, then reenlisted four years later, well aware that he would probably be sent to Iraq.

March of 2004 arrived and Casey was, in fact, sent to Iraq as a mechanic with the artillery division attached to the 1st Cavalry Division.

Casey Sheehan died during a rescue mission he volunteered to join.

A convoy had been attacked in Sadr City, and although he had no obligation to take part in the rescue mission, he went anyway.

For his heroism, he was awarded a purple heart and a bronze star.

His father tells stories of how Casey knew he wanted a life in the military, and how he loved the military because it gave him a chance to serve his country, which he did proudly and willingly.

Casey’s sister said, “That’s all he wanted to do is serve God and his country his whole life.”

So what does it say for Casey that his mother has publicly announced that she feels that “this country is not worth dying for”?

Was it a waste that he volunteered to fight for his country and ultimately gave his life for a cause he felt strongly about?

As I write this, 1,873 U.S. troops have been killed in Iraq. The parents of 1,872 of those troops have mourned the deaths of their children privately and have allowed their children to live on in memory with well-deserved dignity, regardless of their feelings on the war.

Cindy Sheehan’s behavior is tarnishing her son’s memory and robbing him of his valor, his bravery and the sacrifice he made.

Maybe she is a grieving mother who began this whole crusade with the intention of achieving justice for her son.

But if she continues, her son will be remembered for his rabid mother and not the gift he gave his country.

As is the case with most mothers, Cindy Sheehan feared for her son before he left for Iraq, so much so that she was willing to help him avoid his impending tour. She offered to run him over with a car.

A mother’s love knows no boundaries.

The Sheehans met with President George W. Bush two months after their son died. After the meeting she said, “I now know he’s sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis,” and, “I know he’s sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he’s a man of faith.”

The media’s love affair with Cindy Sheehan began with her more recent demands to meet with President Bush. Apparently she began feeling differently about the President’s reaction to the situation and to their meeting.

It also might have had something to do with the involvement of some leftist anti-war radicals named Michael Moore and Sam Husseini.

All of a sudden, Sheehan is asking President Bush, “Why did you murder my son?” and calling him “the biggest terrorist” — putting her in the good company of Islamic fundamentalists like Khalid Khawaja, who calls Osama Bin Laden “a man like an angel.”

From “Camp Casey,” in front of George Bush’s Texas ranch and through messages on Michael Moore’s Web site, she is exploiting her position as a grieving mother to further her cause as a leftist and an anti-war activist.

She is even raving that her son died to benefit Israel and the neo-con agenda.

Now, the leftist anti-war groupies have found a live one, and are jumping on the bandwagon from near and far.

The groupies have created quite a sizeable coalition at Sheehan’s campout in Texas. Some of the headliners include Gold Star Families for Peace, Code Pink, Veterans for Peace, Military Families Speak Out and the Crawford Peace House.

All of these groups are on the steering committee of United for Peace and Justice, a major anti-war organization.

Also with a presence on UPJ’s steering committee is the Communist Party USA. Makes for interesting bedfellows, doesn’t it?

UPJ was the brainchild behind the march on the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York.

When 253 of its protesters were polled by the New York Sun as to whether they felt that “Iraqi attacks on Americans occupying Iraq are legitimate resistance” 67 percent answered yes.

This means Sheehan’s coalition thinks the kind of attack that killed her son is perfectly okay.

Convinced yet that this is not about grieving her son’s death?

Cindy Sheehan has become the new poster child/puppet of the anti-war, anti-American, extreme left lobby in this country. It really is a shame that her son’s death is being used as an opportunity to propagate the far left’s political platform.

And yes, when you want your country to fail, such as these people do, you are anti-American.

It’s a good thing for Cindy Sheehan that she has the love and affection of the leftist radicals and the American media.

Her husband has filed for divorce, and it is almost a sure bet her son is looking down on her as a disappointed man.

Who speaks for Casey Sheehan? ***........I'd love to know what Casey Sheehan thought about this nation on the day he died. The evidence suggests that he would not have agreed with his mother's violently anti-American ideas. But we'll never know for sure.

Yet it's not too late to hear from other Casey Sheehans — from our soldiers in Iraq, any one of whom might volunteer for a dangerous mission tomorrow. Why don't some of the reporters who spent weeks hanging on Cindy Sheehan's every word tell us what our soldiers are thinking?

Cindy versus Casey Sheehan has posed a stark choice — a choice this nation will remember long after the Texas vigil: "This country is not worth dying for" versus "all he wanted to do was serve G-d and his country." Where do our soldiers stand? They have as much right to be heard as Cindy Sheehan. .........***

In addition to his parents, Patrick and Cindy, Sheehan is survived by his brother, Andy, and sisters, Carly and Jane.

Sure and of course, Hanoi Jane's magical mystery tour is something you will not hear about until or unless the media backs off Ms. Sheehan. Did you notice that they are quiet about Jane, so all the attention may be focused on Sheehan??? Poor Jane has to wait in the wings...oh well, such is show biz!

I do not mean to be vicious, but I honestly think that Cindy Sheehan has suffered some kind of breakdown. It's not that I blame her. Anybody would have a hell of a time loosing a kid. I think the left is just using her for what she's worth to them. After that, she will be discarded. I think it's despicable that the left is using her in this way.

It is interesting that the "grieving mother" is against everything her son was willing to fight and die for all his life, and she is against it in his name. How could she not grieve for her son, but her anger and lashing out is misdirected.

Her husband and other children are showing the class and grace in their grief that I would have expected from the family of a hero that Casey was, his mother is not.

Nobody is allowed to speak for Casey except for Casey himself.

It's obvious that he would never say, "George, please speak with my mother," if the President had really met with Cindy. Casey is angry.

Cindy and her delusions of grandeur.. This is a quote from the LA Slimes..

"I know that the Camp Casey movement is going to end the war in Iraq," Sheehan told more than 1,000 cheering activists crammed into the shade under a circus tent. "When you read about the Camp Casey movement in the history books, you can say, 'I met Casey's mom.'

Since the highest military decoration I own is an Army Good Conduct Medal, I'm hardly in a position to rate anybody else's. But has anyone else noted the citation for Casey Sheehan's Bronze Star, and then compared it to John F'n Kerry's? A disconnect? It seems to me that Casey's actions were a lot more deserving of recognition than what I remember of JF'nK's.

***...It is possible to be a socialist, and radical in one's agendas, and yet moderate in the means one regards as practical to achieve them. To change the world, it is first necessary to acquire cultural and political power. And these transitional goals may often be accomplished by indirection and deception even more effectively than by frontal assault. Political stratagems that appear moderate and compromised to radical factions of the left may present an even greater threat from the perspective of the other side. In 1917, Lenin's political slogan wasn't "Socialist Dictatorship! Firing Squads and Gulags!" It was "Bread, Land and Peace."

....If others could understand your truth, you would not think of yourself as a "vanguard." You would no longer inhabit the morally charmed world of an elite, whose members alone can see the light and whose mission is to lead the unenlightened towards it. If everybody could see the promised horizon and knew the path to reach it, the future would already have happened and there would be no need for the vanguard of the saints.

...Their cynicism flows from the very perception they have of right and wrong. They do it for higher ends. They do it for the progressive faith. They do it because they see themselves as having the power to redeem the world from evil. It is that terrifyingly exalted ambition that fuels their spiritual arrogance and justifies their sordid and, if necessary, criminal means.

And that is why they hate conservatives. They hate you because you are killers of their dream. Because you are defenders of a Constitution that thwarts their cause. They hate you because your "reactionary" commitment to individual rights, to a single standard and to a neutral and limited state obstructs their progressive designs. They hate you because you are believers in property and its rights as the cornerstones of prosperity and human freedom; because you do not see the market economy as a mere instrument for acquiring personal wealth and political war chests, to be overcome in the end by bureaucratic schemes.

Conservatives who think progressives are misinformed idealists will forever be blind-sided by the malice of the left-by the cynicism of those who pride themselves on principle, by the viciousness of those who champion sensitivity, by the intolerance of those who call themselves liberal, and by the ruthless disregard for the well-being of the downtrodden by those who preen themselves as social saints.

Conservatives are caught by surprise because they see progressives as merely misguided, when in fact they are fundamentally misdirected. They are the messianists of a religious faith. But it is a false faith and a self-serving religion. Since the redeemed future that justifies their existence and rationalizes their hypocrisy can never be realized, what really motivates progressives is a modern idolatry: their limitless passion for the continuance of Them.***

The Left is cobbling together all the fringe groups they can to be a presence and swell their numbers.

***....from Sept. 24 to 26, antiwar groups are organizing three days of events here in Washington, starting with a march and rally and culminating in what their website calls "mass nonviolent direction action and civil disobedience." Immediate withdrawal from Iraq is just one part of the agenda, which includes a call for "global justice" and protection of immigrants' rights and basic civil rights. ...***

***...."We've had slogans like, 'No Blood for Oil,' and 'Bring the Troops Home Now,' but this is a real flesh-and-blood story," said Jodie Evans, a co-founder of Code Pink: Women for Peace, which has led many of the anti-war movement's guerrilla tactics and organized meetings of Iraqi and American citizens. "What works is that it is focused. It is one person's loss versus another person who caused that loss.

"Geez, she's a mom who's lost a child," said Evans, who teared up at Camp Casey this week as she recalled her own 2-year-old daughter dying 20 years ago. "Who can argue with that?"

......Glenn Smith, a veteran Texas political consultant who is organizing a counter-event to the evangelical-sponsored Justice Sunday II gathering in Nashville, said it's rare that a voice like Sheehan's emerges. "Probably the best thing the movement can do is get out of her way," said Smith, whose Nashville gathering of liberal faith leaders is called Freedom and Faith. "She doesn't need managing."

Smith has worked with Sheehan, a former Catholic youth minister, at other events involving left-leaning religious leaders and marvels that her voice "is so real. It didn't come out of a focus group or some kind of professional message guru. It's not a polished political message. It's more like Greek tragedy."

Whether Sheehan is the right person for the job of "the new face" is an open question. "I don't even realize it yet," she told The Chronicle this week. "I haven't been able to see any news or be on my computer or read e-mail because it's been full." ...........

but I honestly think that Cindy Sheehan has suffered some kind of breakdown.

The way I see it is likened to "innocent due to reason of insanity" in a murder case. That is the most ridiculous plea - anyone who murders is insane in my book - does not make them "innocent" at all. In other words, Cindy is not "innocent" due to her so-called breakdown. She has and will have the blood of our soldiers and innocent Iraqi civilians on her hands due to the encouragement given the terrorists by her and our media.
