A driver for the Rev. Al Sharpton led Ellis County sheriff's deputies on a nine-mile chase at speeds up to 110 mph before state troopers stopped the car, authorities said.
The driver was rushing Sharpton to the airport after his visit with anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Sunday at her camp outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford. The car carrying Sharpton and two other passengers was clocked doing 110 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 35 in Ellis County in North Texas, said Lt. Danny Williams.
The car ignored deputies' attempts to stop it and continued speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before it was stopped, Williams said.
Calls Monday to Sharpton's spokeswoman were not immediately returned. A spokesman for his attorney, Michael Hardy, referred inquiries to the spokeswoman.
Deputies arrested Jarrett Barton Maupin, 43, of Phoenix. Maupin told the officers he was hurrying to get Sharpton to the airport. Deputies impounded the rented 2005 Lincoln.
Williams said his officers offered Sharpton and the other, unidentified passengers a ride to a hotel across the highway, but they declined and walked there instead.
Maupin posted a total of $1,000 in bonds on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and reckless driving.
You've got to see this!
Nothing new here, he's been evading justice for years.
Race card will be played (bottom dealing).
You are known by your fruits. So Rev Al hangs with a fruit and then thinks he's above the law and does not need to stop for a trooper? Typical liberal I guess. Laws are for everyone but them?
Can't make what up? The driver was arrested as he should have been.
Is this for REAL ????
shouldn't everyone in the car be taken in at at least questioned after driving at 110 miles/hour?
Where is Tawana Brawley when she's needed? Don't mess with Texas!
The Right Reverand Al said this was ludicrous (evading arrest). He could have been referring to the rapper, but I don't think so.

Yup,, Al will be craying the race card and blah blah... I find this halarious.. Whats even more funny is that El Rushbo warnd Sharpton not go go down there... this is what happens whaen ya dont take Rush's advice, AL!
Still chuckling to myself over here
Don't those police kkow who Sharpton thinks he is
What for? Only one guy was driving, and he was arrested.
The driver is responsible for not pulling over, not the passengers.
Reverend "White interloper" doesn't have to pay taxes or parking tickets. He's a special guy.
It is true, you cannot begin to make this type stuff up. Here is the rev. speeding away from that wacko and gets stopped going at 110 in a 65. Wow that is just what the dr. ordered. Nothing you make up could be any funnier than that. This is great.
This is an actual story and not just a NewSmacksism.
You can charter a helo and fly straight to DFW
-- at any speed you prefer under 250Kts... no Highway Patrol...
Saves time.... costs money....looks cool/famous....
Coming and going,,,

Have a nice day in court.... Rev
Did anyone explain to him that outside New York City people are expected to obey the laws?
He's disgusting. His driver will take the fall for him and he doesn't give a rip!
do any of you remember seeing a black Lincoln sedan, with darkly tinted windows flying past us on I-35 on the drive down to Crawford!
it must have been doing 90 and it got stopped by a Texas Officer who pulled out on to the freeway from the meridian!
It makes me wonder if sharpton got a speeding ticket on the way down to Crawford, too!
I am sure Sharpton thinks he's above the law. THis is great.
You've done not much more than start pissing matches in your very short tenure here.
You're all over a whole lot of threads, basically tossing out insults. You're not an asset....bye.
Al wasn't driving. It's No big deal. He's an idiot, but he was just a passenger. That's why the driver was arrested. Lots of people speed to get to the airport. I've probably clocked close to that once or twice going to an airport.
The driver was being told to continue, and he paid the price.
Excuse me?
Give him a Rodney King pat-down....
You're kidding right?!
****Race card will be played (bottom dealing).***
An LBJ he ain't.
For those whipper snappers here, way back in 1965 Prez. Lyndon B Johnson was caught speeding down a Texas road. Him, his secretary, and a 6 pack of beer. They let him go.
Read beyone the first sentence, if you're able.....it's vaguely possible you'll get my drift.
"The driver is responsible for not pulling over, not the passengers."
Most drivers would pull over when being chased by police, knowing they'd be subject to arrest and severe penalties for fleeing. But I believe those making comments here surmise (as do I) that Sharpton was probably ordering the guy to floor it so he wouldn't miss his plane.
If I'm wrong, then why didn't Sharpton DEMAND that the guy stop if the police were in pursuit of the vehicle?
Nice day for a little Pedestrian Polo, eh? Oops, damn! Missed him.
Sharpton and Cindy
The Dems Dynamic duo
Don't we all know he thinks he's above the law.
This should be major news. Has it been on the cable News, yet? Why not? FOX News?

I don't know what your problem is, or what brought that on, I just posted some facts here about the arrest.
I don't think I've ever even posted to you before.
granted, your reply is a bit off the wall......However, I DO agree Rev. Al was not drive the car. Sort of like the military, You take the chiefs orders but the bottom line is you did the behaviour.
Ig it were up to me, I'd drive Ronald McDonald around town.....MUCH more handsome, and more of a message :)
When I first read this, I thought it was just the DRIVER. I can't believe Sharpton himself was in the thing! What was he doing to stop the illegal speeding? Or did he notice? Maybe he was too emaciated from his dieting. Perhaps he was holding a gun to his head.
Thank your very much.

Now had he been driving only 55 in the passing lane, then I really would have been pissed off at him.
It's life in the fast lane when you're in show biz.
