Shep Smith just reported martial law declared in New Orleans...
What a pity.
Wow when was the last time something like this happened??
Thank the good Lord!
WOW, problems must have gotten out of hand.
Everyone bust out your karate moves.
Looters can/should be shot.
A lot of people there are probably joining you in saying this.
I wonder if Bush had to twist the idiot mayor and gov of LA's arms again?
Someone is taking control away from the City Government--The Mayor.
Good. Bag some looters. Don't let LA turn into L.A.
The extent of this disaster is just beginning to sink in. It truly is of biblical proportions..
ordering everyone to get out now..oil tankers leaking..water rising..don't know how to stop it.shep smith sounds scared to death
Anyone who would take advantage of a disaster like this to further their criminal aims truly is evil and deserves extra punsihment.
Who has the authority to do that? Is it the Gov or the Prez?
I believe the Gov.
Whats the deal with the oil tankers leaking? are these storage facilities?
He reported that "Civil Rights do not exist in New Orleans anymore".
He was staying in a hotel on Burbon Street (I've been there, it's smack in the middle of all the action) and said last night it was dry, but this morning, it was flooding. He's now reporting from the bridge on the outskirts of the city.
He just said if you're caught outside, you'll get arrested!!!
I want to know also. If you find out, ping me.
Quite likely what is neccessary. Normal society can't function in this kind of chaos.
Wonder if the jailhouse is flooded?
He's just nervous because he didn't have time to put on his makeup.
What is the word on what caused the flooding? Are the dikes breaking?
Are you suffering from a lack of original thought? Same post, thread after thread.
I was at the Royal Sonesta a month ago with my wife and another meteorologist, and we kept talking about the catastrophe a Cat 4 or 5 would be. We knew it would come to pass, and it has.
I don't know much about this sort of thing but can the armed forces and National Guard send in as many helicopters are possible to get people out? How terrifying.
Yes, levees breaking. Check the side bar on the forum home page.
Shep just said they DON'T KNOW WHY THE WATER IS RISING!!
AND THEY CAN'T PUMP IT OUT!!
This is HORRIBLE! The best city on earth might just have to be bulldozed and rebuilt!!
LOL! What a shirtlifter he is.
Absolutely, positively, without a doubt, you loot you die, period, no further discussion and no suing by the family of the perp.
This has surely been a bad hurricane, but the doomsday event of NO being wiped away doesnt seem to have happened. It doesnt look much worse than the hurricanes that hit the FLorida panhandle
From what I've seen, the underclass that exists down there (and SE Texas for that matter) aren't normal society, and they do not function well under any circumstance..but especially not when property owners are away.
Levees have been breeched.
LOOTERS SHOT ON SIGHT!
So many businesses who sell jewelry and expensive paintings, etc...
If a looter was successful, he could become a millionair in a day!!
Problems were probably "out of hand" before the last evacuee headed out. Sad but true, there are many in that area (and a lot of them not even FROM that area) who were probably looting as fast as they could before the storm hit.
how is the levee breeched? is it just spilling over the top? are they structurally sound still?
Shep is an a$$clown.
Have the authorities actually said that looters will be shot on sight, or is that just us getting all a-twitter?
Something like that happened here (Panama City, FL) during Opal. A county official (Emergency Management Director) became very dictatorial in the aftermath of the storm. He had the Sheriff block home-owners from returning to their homes long after it was safe to do so.
The clod thought he was so popular and handled the storm so well that he decided to run for county commissioner (gave up his E.M. job to do so). He got only a handful of votes, so he asked for his old job back. He got a big NO and ended up selling used cars for a local dealership.
But here's where it gets wierd. In 1998, he won a pile of money in the state's lottery and took off for parts unknown.
Yes, biblical proportions indeed. Anyone remember Shep Smith proclaiming that New Orleans had "dodged the bullet" yesterday afternoon? Actually, he said it several times. What a doofus.
In New Orleans? Probably when Andrew Jackson's troops occupied the city during the War of 1812.
See URGENT BREAKING side bar thread.
An oil tanker broke loose from it's moorings and is leaking-- washed up on 'beach'. Besides that 2 permanent Shell oil rigs unaccounted for. The big easy is now the big flooded-snakes-coffins-bodies-chemicals-feces-city.
