Maybe we'll just need to rebuild the whole thing inland, and a few more feet over sea level.
I apologize for that joke in advance to those of you that will be offended by my crass display of humor.

Probably because it is hard to fathom a state would elect this woman as the Governor. She is way over her head IMHO and answers sound dumb in the press conference. She is now being talked over by people around her. She has no business being the Governor IMHO.

Thank you very much for listing the charities! If some Freepers work for corporations that "match" donations , Please donate that way. Your donations is worth 2xs as much!

this partisan ranting and raving against la/nola officials is getting tiresomeIt's not partisan; it's truthful.
and has to provide great laughs for the other side
I didn't realize there was an "other side" in a disaster.

I am sorry I campaigned against her twice butshort of her doing a filiabuster and stopping all senate business if we didnt get the necessary funding there wasnt much she vitter jindal or anyone else could do.Trying to prepare a city for a Category 5 hurricane is somewhat akin to fortifying the DFW Metroplex against an F-5 tornado.
You simply can't prevent widespread disaster in the face of that.

The problem now is how to get 80,000 people out, only way to move 80,000 people is boats, lots and lots of boats. Coast Guard/Navy should organize a Dunkirt operation of the poor city of New Orleans.

Nice to think that they will be partying come Fat Tuesday but this is going to be a massive task.

Torie, I believe that is a photo of the 17th Street Canal, which connects to the Lake, not the Mississippi.

"Fox: "Hear that hissing sound? That may be a gas leak..." Yikes."
Definately a big YIKES~~!! What's he thinking standing there, listening to a possible gas leak?? good grief.
To: LibWrangler
If these people are trapped and they are taking necessary supplies like food, diapers, water, I am sure we can all understand. If they are ripping off beer I'd actually allow the beer as well-- at least that would be pure for drinking.

But, you shouldn't lie to them, either. Especially people who have small children out walking around in that stuff.

Governor Blanco is way over her head and what is needed are people that understand a disaster and do not get emotional right now. This press conference reveals a Governor that has very little clue on what to do next.
Without the guy talking she would look even worse. She is terrible -- as Governor you have to be able to handle anything thrown at you. Look at Gov Keating when the OKC Bombing occured -- he provided people with a Governor that stood strong and gave comfort. This Governor is weak.

"Fox: "Hear that hissing sound? That may be a gas leak..." Yikes."
That sounds quite "Geraldoesque"....
To: Torie
It appears to me that it is not, and that the Mississippi is indeed flowing into Eastern NO. How high can Lake P go until it overflows someplace else? Might have to blow the seawalls if this is happening.
