The global warming theory has already come up, Just curious. How do they use the global warming theory to explain the thousands of deaths in Galveston from flooding from the category 5 hurricane of 1900 ?
If my math holds, that catastrophic hurricane occurred over 100 years ago.

DUMB QUESTION TIME - WHERE ARE HELICOPTERS TO DROP 1000LB POLY PLY BAGS OF SAND INTO THE BREECH? I would think it might be dangerous to start dropping heavy objects on a crumbling structure.
To: spanalot
WHERE ARE THE EMPTY BARGES TO SINK AT THE BREECH TO DO THE SAME THING??? Dirk Pitt to the rescue......
To: Right_in_Virginia
Galveston 1900 was a Category 4.

With the water rising people are now sleeping and spending the night on freeway overpasses per pictures I saw on NBC.

Didn't think so.

I've been wondering myself. I have no idea about the veracity of this, but
one report says that Plaquemines Parish is completely gone underwater.

I hate to say it, but looting is extremely low on the list of priorities at this point. They need to spend every ounce of energy getting people to safety not dealing with looters. It's like swatting at flies while the house is on fire.

Plaquemines -- Lower Plaquemines Parish is gone as observed from satellite.
Haven't seen it myself -- just heard it on shortwave.

Look, NO is doomed in its present state. Folks taking food out of ruined grocerystores are harming no one.
If something is not "looted" now, it will simply be bulldozed under if these people decide to continue living in a city below sealevel.
I'd much prefer my tax dollars (if any) go to relocating the place!

How do you design specs to insure a flooding catastrophe like this one never happens again to a location below sea level? You can't.
Texas used to have a town along the coast in the 1800s named "Indianola". A decent-sized city was built there. A hurricane hit. 100s died. The survivors rebuilt. A decade later, another hurricane hit. 100s more died. There is no longer an Indianola.
I'm sure they will try to rebuild the New Orleans area but it will only be a question of when another Katrina comes along to take it out again. It makes more sense to rebuild north of Lake Ponchartrain (but I know it's not going to happen).

My father who lives in North Louisiana told me that Mary Landriu (spelling?) has already said on tv that this is partly Bush's fault because of global warming. This stupid, incompetent and irresponsible b*tch (Mary Landrieu) and a jerk Mayor of NO are fully responsible for NOT ORDERING AND EXECUTING full evacuation 2 days before a disaster struck (National Hurricane Center was right on the money predicting exact path of Katrine after the hurricane emerged on Gulf leaving Fla.)
There was plenty of time to do it, they dragged their feet and probably wouldn't,t do anything if Pres Bush and National Hurricane Center didn't put pressure on them.
I hope they will be hold fully responsible for this disaster which could and should be prevented providing there was a competent leadership in charge.
I'm afraid the death toll is going to be in hundreds or thousands when all the chips fall.

I personally saw the President of the United States tell everybody down there to LEAVE. It's inconceivable that anyone was told to stay in their homes.
This sounds like another one of those "stay at your desks" tales from the WTC 9/11 event.

"It's a very slow rise, and it will remain so until we plug that breach. I think we can get it stabilized in a few hours," Thank God it will be plugged in a few hours and isn't serious.

That's what I call leadership.
Did he say anything else?

He said some other stuff, but the "leave" part was exceedingly relevant to this particular situation.
