Oh no, the report says people are committing suicide. This is just terrible.

sorry but that breech will not be stabilized in a few hours if we are talking about the same one I saw. This is not a dam you make in the gutter of the front yard. It is hydro-static pressure millions and millions of gallons of it. It doesnt even count the levees that are yet to crumble.

I heard it on local radio this morning, didn't catch the whole story however, I did hear that in certain counties, towns, etc. people were told not to leave their homes, I'm not looking for an argument I'm just repeating what I heard, I have no way of proving it to be true or false, just passing on information.

Was your father drunk? Have you always been this ignorant or did you just start a new hobby?

There were reports earlier about a suicide at the Superdome.

"Who in the city gov of NO did not see the looting problem coming? Shoot a few on site and control the problem."
I agree. It was to be expected in a city like NO all the looting.
Also agree on the shooting.
Mayor Nagin and Gov Blanco are two incompetent nincompoops and should be arrested asap.

I'm afraid the death toll is going to be in hundreds or thousands when all the chips fall. I agree, no one is talking about the bodies that are floating anymore, not since about noon CDST.
Why do people choose to stay when ordered to leave? IMHO anyone with children who stayed and died, murdered their children.

The people of Louisiana don't need to hear Governor Blanco using words like 'worst fears, overwhelming, untenable, heartbreaking.' They know that. They need a leader who will spell out the realities of the situation and give them courage for what lies ahead. Someone who sounds like they know what they're doing.

I already sent her an email expressing my displeasure of her politically charged comments at such a devastating time.

If it was all of my belongings and my life savings that was lost in the water - I'd start over.
If it was my wife I'd hold my kid's hands a little tighter.
If it were my kids, I'd hug my wife a lot stronger (and more often).
If it were my whole family, I don't know.
Prayers for all the people affected by this tragedy.

And take into account the flooding of the Ohio River - which in awhile will be in New Orleans. (Quick estimate: 800 miles at 20mph = 40hrs???)

Colonel, I heard today that the Mississippi River has reclaimed the southernmost part of Plaquemines Parish. It's just gone.

I don't think it will be fixed in a few hours. Sandbags will get washed away. I would think they would start dropping hundreds of those concrete highway barriers just to slow it down. Then they would starting using rip-rap (large boulders). I understand that the Army Corp of Engineers are running various models to see what would be best to use, from cargo containers to 3000 # sand bags.
My heart and prayers go out to everyone effected by this disaster.
To: geopyg
good freaking point. Had not thought of that.
