The only thing rising faster than the water is the price of gas. Yep. Topped off my tanks on Sunday at $2.61/gallon. Today it's up to $2.76/gallon.

If they are only taking food and clothing from stores that will be flooded anyway, then let them go. The looting of personal homes etc. is another matter.

even the Dutch had a boy to stick something in the leaky dyke dike I don't want to make light during a bad situation, but that is dang funny! :)
No way in heck would I put MY finger NEAR a leaky dyke.

I spoke with someone who has worked for one of our local distributors for almost 20 years. He said they've been informed that the price is to go up between $1.00 and $1.50 in the next 24 hours with more increases after that.

My son who is at Ft. Knox said that one thing in our favor is that the area was very dry. That means a lot of rain water will be soaked up and not discharged into creeks.

American Pompeii It sure seems like it. Prayers to the poor families that are suffering so.
I also guess there won't be a party in the streets this Mardi Gras; full of drunken men shouting to women on balconies to "show us your t_ts!" and the women complying.
Reality hits hard.

""WHERE ARE HELICOPTERS TO DROP 1000LB POLY PLY BAGS OF SAND INTO THE BREECH? ""
"Did you read the article? The answer is there.
Didn't think so."
I did read it but where are they? Having a few hundred choppers filling the breech would be a photo op of the century.
Where re they?
What about scuttling barges, etc? Have'nt seen it.
They have been taliking about this hurricane for 50 years - Where's plan B?

That canal that feeds the breech ain't that wide.
I got two aunts that could fill that leak.
How many breeches are there?
Are any being plugged?

It will take months, maybe even years for NO to recover from this devastation, look at the mess from Andrew, some people won't bother to rebuild, plus, when building does restart there should be stricter building codes to deter another event like this or at least make it less painful. Next time people should heed the warning to evacuate to cut down on some of the people we've seen standing on roof tops. I understand that in some places people were told to stay in their homes period and personally if I was told to stay in my home and then it got flooded and a family member lost his/her life you can bet I'd be suing the whole damn state. I saw one gentleman on the news who lost his wife, literally, they were holding hands and he could not hold on anymore, his wife told him to let go and take care of the children and grandchildren, he let go, when the man was interviewed he was in shock. The mental anguish of this man's situation will probably never be taken care of, this man will live with his wife's words for the rest of his life.
Yeah, I heard that story too while listening to the Walkman at work, really sad and went thru my heart, can't remember if I heard it over Rush or Glenn Beck. B-( I know at ork, I made the comment that if I lived down there, I would probably have a Winnebago, when I have to "get out of Dodge," fill it up with $3 a gallon gas, fire the motor up and shove it in drive. Trouble is, RVing is OK for a single guy like me but when you have a family, there just ain't enough space. I always toyed with the idea of turning a double deckered English bus into a two story "Winnebago on steroids," but that ain't here or there, but that's the only thought that can get a smile out of me on all of this. I often wondered who said, "hey, this area is below sea level, what a good place to put a city!" I'm just full of thoughts on all of this, so forgive the babbling, but I'll say another prayer for these people tonite.

This stupid, incompetent and irresponsible b*tch (Mary Landrieu) and a jerk Mayor of NO are fully responsible for NOT ORDERING AND EXECUTING full evacuation 2 days before a disaster struck (National Hurricane Center was right on the money predicting exact path of Katrine after the hurricane emerged on Gulf leaving Fla.) Scrolling back on the Katrina threads, the discussion showed that the models were showing a drift towards NO shortly after 5pm Central time on Friday, with confirmation shortly after 7pm Central

Price is going up to anticipate the price that the wholesalers will charge. That will be driven more by fear than an actual shortage. I guess Bush needs to release more oil just to deflate the speculation in futures.
